For example you can or may be using someone else's art work , music , logo , etc. , but you don't even know it. Copyright is a protection for the author who wrote/made it. Before you copy or write anything , stop and think , is it illegal if I use other art work ,  music , dances , etc. ? Yes it is illegal . Example , you had made something so awesome for someone special , but there's a little catch , someone had took it , wouldn't you be mad , sad , because they had took all the credit for your work? But the good thing about copyright is you , yourself have the right to control who can use or can not use your own work. No , copyright does not last forever, it'll last 70 years , till the author or artist passes away. Till then it is a copyright. Also if it doesn't have the symbol or word 'copyright' doesn't mean you can use it. Don't forget Fair Use is almost like copyright , but instead Fair Use is for educational and/or research purposes. Good thing about Fair Use is NO permission is needed because it is fair use , but think it is only for educational purposes only. Pubic Domain , good thing about this is that it belongs to anybody and everybody , freely used without compensating the authors.
