I liked what this article was saying about how we need to look at what we are grading differently. The way our system is set up is like a locomotive. We have to jump on and then hang on for dear life! We are mandated to cover so much information in a certain amount of time, but are we really getting the results that we need and want? The learning is not organic and because of that, it is hard to make it lasting for the student.

Assess what really matters, teacher may easily be distracted by errors or mistakes on things not being measured at a given assignment. One way to avoid such a thing to happen is focus on what matters when grading or when giving feedback.

To your point, I think the article was saying that due dates, formatting, and word counts don't show a students ability to apply information or demonstrate a skill. I think they are important for other reasons though?

I think this article was spot on. I think focusing on learning outcomes rather than the grade is more beneficial for the student. I think students would be more likely to retain the information, if the text is applied to real-life experiences. They are able to relate to them, and are probably more likely to retain the information.

I liked how the article pointed out that students are focusing on what they're producing whether than what they're learning. It is something I have never considered before. Offering feedback is more beneficial to a student than just slapping a grade on an assignment. Feedback is how our student's grow in their skills. It aids their learning.

I think that it is very important when it touches on making sure that we aren't basically creating busy work " if you wouldn't grade it in person, it shouldn't be graded remotely". I am a little uneasy about the accountability part towards the end but I get the point. Overall pretty good read.
