* out of *****. I got halfway through before I abandoned this book. (I did read the last chapter just to see if it got any better. It didn't). The main character was annoying and really had no redeeming qualities. The concept was interesting (a girl dies and find herself a part of a business based on a Christmas Carol; she's the ghost of Christmas Present), but boringly executed. Beautiful story about mothers and daughters, and the impact our secrets and choices have on our lives. Set in Shaker Heights in the mid to late 90s, two sets of mothers and daughters, one bohemian and artistic, another disciplined and structured, find their lives inexplicably intertwined in the most heart-wrenching ways.
