I got halfway through before I abandoned this book. (I did read the last chapter just to see if it got any better. It didn't). The main character was annoying and really had no redeeming qualities. The concept was interesting (a girl dies and find herself a part of a business based on a Christmas Carol; she's the ghost of Christmas Present), but boringly executed. Do not recommend.

Told in alternating chapters between a German boy solider and young, blind French girl in occupied France. The plot structure is complex and intricate. You know the stories will intersect, but where and how remains a mystery until they suddenly collide.

5 out of 5 stars
Beautiful story about mothers and daughters, and the impact our secrets and choices have on our lives. Set in Shaker Heights in the mid to late 90s, two sets of mothers and daughters, one bohemian and artistic, another disciplined and structured, find their lives inexplicably intertwined in the most heart-wrenching ways. Realistic fiction at its finest and most emotionally demanding. Highly Recommended.
