I was inspired to make this following a field trip to the Georgia Aquarium. At the aquarium I found the textures of the jellyfish tentacles to be fascinating.

Aztec headpiece, 2023

Foam, paint, feathers, and marker


The headdress is called a penacho ( copilli in nahuatl). This great feathered headdress was worn by Moctezuma from the Aztec empire. The Aztec headpiece was a type of an offering worn by priests during ritual representation for the gods. They were generally only worn by priests, warriors, and the rulin of the class. The feathers on the headpiece are a symbol of riches and power.
