Mentioning poverty, many people will probably link it with some developing countries or some countries that get involved with wars. In fact, the United States, the richest country in the world, has the highest poverty rate in the group of rich countries. According to The Economist, there are more than 40 million people are currently living in poverty. The line of poverty in the United States is set to an annual household income of $25,100 for a family of 4 members.

Low income or unemployment can cause living in poverty; some people cannot even afford rent so they become homeless. It is really hard for those people who are living in poverty to break through that line. Let's see some people who are in poverty.

Mr. Melendez was born in America, but he drove a taxi for a living for the last 17 years in Honduras, but he received death threats from local gang members, so he had to leave the country. Then, he became homeless with his three daughters. Currently, he is living in a shelter which also provides free meals and childcare. He is also receiving educational training which is the equivalency to a high school level. He volunteers at the county social service office helping Spanish-speaking clients. It is really hard for him to get a job because the transportation is a huge problem for him
