This artwork is titled "Mushrooms" by Yayoi Kusama. This is an acrylic painting on canvas. What drew me to this painting was the colors and the mushrooms. I think the colors all go really beautifully together and i love mushrooms. This painting kind of gives me the vibe of Alice and Wonderland which is one of my favorite Disney movies. The artist paints a lot of plants in her artwork because she grew up with merchant parents who worked in a plant nursery. In grade school Kusama often drew images based off of her hallucinations.

Jilson Tiu (@jilson.tiu) • Instagram photos and videos
Jilson Tiu
The artist I decided to go with was Jilson Tiu who is based in the Philippines. He captures moments in the Philippines as well as has photographed important subjects in the Philippines, such as his work of capturing "Greenpeace" which was a project to clean up the beaches in the Philippines.
This photo, also known as Chasing Life stood out to me because it is a photo of little kids having fun playing in the water in the Philippines. While that may seem normal, in the Philippines people live in poverty as well as that usually face a lot of struggles, like for example, my mom when she was a child with her siblings, her youngest brother got sick with polio, but her family wasn't able to provide him with the care he needed so they relied on natural medicines and such to get him through it. This eventually led to him being sick and now having a limp and the mentality of a 9 yr old boy. With this being said this photo meant alot to my mom because it shows that even with the pressures going on in this world especially in the Philippines there is always a reason to smile sometimes you just have to find it!

"A Clock"

I chose to cover Suzuki Harunobu because he introduced Nishiki-e, the art of woodblocking and full color (more than 4) painting to his culture. He perfected the craft of Nishiki-e (which was invented by him!) within the last five years of his life in 1765. Before him paintings were monochromatic. I chose this because when I think of Japanese paintings I think of intense, bright, and vivid colors. It is amazing to think that before him paintings were only in black and white. During this short 5 years, he created over 20 illustrated books, 1000 colored prints, various paintings, numerous Shunga (which was extremely popular), and he also helped create one of the first calendars as seen in his culture.

Little is known about him, such as his birth date and birth place, but his contribution to art lives on forever!

It captures the daily life of people and the landscape of the capital. This artwork tells the story of the time's people and captures a moment in their history. It reminds me of the Bayeaux Tapestry that I visited in a museum in Normandy, France which was made in medieval times and tells the story of William the Conqueror. Art is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a glimpse into history. Cool!

Ngoc Van was a Vietnamese painter and was one of the first recipients who got the Ho Chi Ming Prize in 1996. He came from a poor family but dreamed about becoming an artist. It wasn't until 1926 that he passed the entrance exam in the Vietnam University of Fine Arts and graduated 2 years later. He then started drawing for the newspaper and eventually became a professor/principle.
I chose this painting because it related to me in many ways. I am a Vietnamese American who grew up going to temples and would wear an ao dai (traditional dress) and every temple I would visit always had some colored lily where people would take pictures.

Losang Samten is a Tibetan-American artists and former Buddhist Monk. He is known for being one of only about thirty people in the world qualified to teach traditional Tibetan sandpainting. This piece is called The Wheel of Life and uses different color sands as its main medium. Samten wanted to create a piece that people could relate to and connect with, thus creating The Wheel of Life. He stated that this artwork contains all the basic principles of Buddhism: the center being the three poisons (anger, greed, and ignorance), and the parts surrounding the circle depicting other parts of Buddhist culture like the law of karma. Samten has created multiple versions of The Wheel of Life in all parts of the world, changing some versions to match the culture of that area. His main goal is to start up a conversation through his artwork and teach people about his own culture and way of life.
https://tricycle.org/magazine/losang-samten/

She is mostly known for her paintings of baby dresses. She creates realistic paintings of dresses that belonged to women of her family and dresses that were hand sewn by them. In this painting you can see different embroidery pieces. Both dresses are different but corresponded with one another. On both dresses you can see a hand with numbers on each finger which probably indicates that the girls who wore these dresses were at a very young age and maybe even learning how to count. The dress on the left also has an embodied "L" which indicates that that dress belongs to Laura. Elisa is Marinas mother so we know that her moms dress is the one on the left. The painting is very detailed and almost looks like a picture. In an exhibition that cruz had, she had attached notes to each painting describing memories or feelings that associated within her for each dress.

And if you look around the mandala they include the people, musicians, and dancers worshiping the god of the moon. This piece was a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Uzi Zucker in 1981.

I've seen Monet artwork and to see another interpretation of it in a totally different style is cool. I love how every petal is different and the design of them compared to the Lillies is interesting. I love water lilies and butterflies so I appreciated that he painted vibrant color flowers and then hid some butterflies in there to.

I chose this piece after I read the reason why Li Cheng draws art. Li Cheng painted with diluted ink and said “treating ink like gold.” This means Li always had a purpose for every drop of ink. He Purposely made his art look foggy because he wanted the aspect of the person looking at it through a dream. Even with his art being foggy, there is still so much detail in this landscape.

Zhang Daqian was one of the most well known artists of the 20th century. Born in the final years of China’s last dynasty he was able to expierience a lot of what the world had to offer. This shows through in his art as modern Impressionism and expressionism. He had many painting styles, from detailed portraits to splash-ink landscapes. He developed his own unique style and believed that it was rooted in Chinese tradition. To complete these I personally enjoy his work because of the effortlessness that is presented in his paintings.

I chose this piece of art because up until reading this wikipedia page I was completely unaware that different countries within Asia had unique art styles. I knew there were different periods of art and philosophy throughout Asia that created different styles of art, but I never knew that location within Asia also influenced the art style. Jeong Seon created this piece while overlooking the mountain range, and I can just picture in my head how powerful and impactful the experience must have been. The way in which he captured each of the 12,000 peaks seen in the artwork is breathtaking and makes me feel as if I'm seeing the mountain range with my own eyes. The use of line variation to create detail in each peak is fascinating and adds a great deal of depth to this landscape painting.

Le Pho was a Vietnamese arts student who was given an opportunity to attend the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris, mentored by a well known French artist during the 30s. Le Pho's paintings followed the same themes, usually painting a Vietnamese woman, landscapes or childhood memories he had. I chose this work because it shows Pho's soft painting style, and he brought trends or references from the west; the painting references "Madonna and baby Jesus", painting a scene where she is nursing him in a triangular structure.

The official name of this artwork is Buddhist Temple in the Mountains, 11th century, China, ink on silk. There was no other name that I could find. But the artist is Li Cheng and he got his painting style from two different artists: Jing Hao and Guan Tong and then developed his own style by starting to paint nature. An interesting story about him is that he didn't like nobles or want to work for them and an official tried to get his painting by offering him a job and he denied the offer. So, one of Li Cheng's friends stole the painting and the official paid the friend. Li Cheng then saw the painting on the officials wall and never spoke to the official or his friend again. His paintings are also done on silk with ink. I chose to present this piece of art because I personally love nature and I thought the mountains in the background were really beautiful. I can imagine this in real life.

The artist I chose focuses on contemporary art, most of her paintings consists of emotional fragility. Showing emotions of emotional instability, vulnerability, and self-blame. This art piece got my attention because I feel like this can represent how I feel at times. Overwhelmed and feeling like your drowning in your emotions.

This is a painting which is part of his series. One of the common themes among his artwork would be birds. I love looking at birds flying by, but looking at this picture of this odd bird caught my attention. The color and texture on the bird caught my eye. which is a white phenix. A phoenix symbolizes happiness union, immortality after death. which is all so fascinating, makes me want to look into more of his work

Growing Gardens by Kimothy Wu. She states about the above photo “She spent her whole life building walls, then sat there in her lonely' and wondered why nothing
grew.” I picked this image as the colors are some of my favorite and look very well together, there is so much detail. Kimothy is a South African–born Taiwanese artist, illustrator, and storyteller who works at the point where the digital meets the physical world. Wu has several different ways to show off her artistic skills including illustrations, graphic design, typography, 3D, and animation. Most her images/prints stand out to me almost instantly. It is new for me to see the illustrations on the photos, which I really enjoyed. If you click on her website below, there are examples of what I am talking about.
https://kimothywuartworks.com/
