It was more of a “ lengthy summary of shifting impressions” and was hard to stay connected with the book. The writer then goes on to talk about the characters in the book and the main scene at the fountain and how much that scene impacted the whole book. Later he talks about how to the book jumps to talk about the war and ends with the statement that Atonement “is less about a novelist harking nostalgically back to the consoling uncertainties of the past than it is about creatively extending and hauling a defining part of the British literary tradition up to and into the 21st century”.

This relates to the book because Briony is young and she realizes that by her just making the assumption that Robbie was a bad guy and hurting her sister, she eventually realizes she makes a mistake. Briony felt older because she had more responsibilities and she felt as if she knew what was best for her sister and that she had to protect her.
