Hermione is very powerful and strong character, she does not allow anyone to degrade her nor tell her what to do. She makes her own path and she is not a follower she is a leader. Despite her being strong she also has a big heart and cares for anyone that is in need of care.

Among the other great minds that Emerson exemplified in his article, Mary Wollstonecraft is arguably one of the great minds that started the push for women's rights. She lived in a time where a woman could not do anything independently, a man was always needed. She wrote the book "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman" which was one of the first books that spoke out for woman's rights. During the 1790s this was majorly looked down upon and many did not understand why she had an opinion and why she spoke out about it.

Chris McCandless from Into the Wild exhibits some of the characteristics that are talked about in the article. Such as the willingness to get away from society, he also pulled away from any human contact like it says in the article "no muse befriends; no invention, no hope." that is what McCandless demonstrates in his off the grid living.

In the song The Champion by Carrie Underwood relates the lyrics similar to the message that Emerson is attempting to get across. Similar to the song lyrics that are "I am invincible, unbreakable
Unstoppable, unshakeable" it is a parallel compared to when Emerson lists the things that make a person strong and self reliant. These two works of writing, even though they don't have the same diction they have the same message behind it about being strong and independent.
