Purposes -Goals Find a group of like minded colleagues willing to work together on a Read Aloud for the classroom

Challenges-I would never want to 'step' on anyone's toes by suggesting such collaboration. I would have to explain or offer the guidance in such a way that came across as completely voluntary and non-critical.
Another challenge I could see is others just not wanting to add anything 'extra' to their plates and I understand that. I would have to present it in such a way that it may make their jobs easier.

Choosing Expectations or Purpose for Reading

All the grades have very similar expectations they just grow a little every year. Most of the expectations for a read aloud should almost be for teaching purposes and formative assessment as it is mainly teacher directed.
Expectations can be informal such as introducing a new genre, a new subject or perhaps an old classic. It is a perfect opportunity to offer something new.
The great thing about a read aloud is it can be slightly above a student's level of reading as with specific guidance, and modelling, that scaffolding can be bridged to meet 'where they are' as well as it allows for differentiation as to what each student will get out of it. Part of this will also be to choose the book for all to read.
Challenges; I don't see too many challenges at this level except perhaps choosing a text. Limited copies can be shared or perhaps even found online. I like to read mine projected onto the white screen so some can follow along or I can point specifics out within the writing.

Implementation

Choose a suggested and rough timeline for the teachers to follow. Also let them know that if they have any issues that they can come to you. Start the reading together and share that several classes are reading the same book. Arrange a check in periodically, even informally to monitor how the read aloud is progressing. I may photocopy the section of the Guide to Effective Instruction that offers great suggestions as to ideas for modelling and engaging students.
I would also start discussing things we can do as a large group to celebrate the book. It could be a Reader's Cafe, a bulletin board, a showing of the movie (if available) or any number of ideas that would push reflection and celebration.
Challenges; the only challenge I would anticipate here is the waning of interest by teachers but good leadership should certainly allow for some slips and encouragement to move forward.

After Reading

As mentioned in the implementation, I would include follow up activities across the grades.
I would also debrief and get feedback from others as to how it went and if their expectations were met. Both theirs personally and their students.
I also think that students should be offered a follow up book for independent reading . It could be a sequel, a book by the same author or even just the same genre.
Challenges; I perhaps naively see no challenges here ;)
