And if the chocolate bar is exposed to the air for long enough, it would start to melt into a liquid. The molecules would gain energy and speed from the warm air around it that has kinetic energy in it being transferred into the chocolate.

More energy is being transferred into the chocolate. The molecules are probably now in the air, causing the chocolate smell.

So, maybe when the wrapper is opened molecules are able to escape. Even if its only a few.

Since we know that chocolate can melt really easy that must mean that the attraction level must be really low. Because of this, some of the molecules might have gotten detached from the other molecules and gone into the office worker's nose. The reason why this might have happened is because there might have been heat added into the molecules and that would have sped up the molecules and gave it more kinetic energy. There wasn't enough kinetic energy to make the entire chocolate bar into a liquid but it could have made some of the molecules detach from the others.

I can smell a chocolate bar even though it is a solid because the molecules are always moving. So the effect of the molecules moving causes parts of the molecules come off of the substance into the air, in this case a chocolate bar. The parts of molecules that are being released are in the gas form, letting you inhale them easily.
