Patriarchy is quite strong in my society due to our cultural background and belief system, with the SDGs approach Women empowerment has slowly driven its way through the social,business and yet political life of Fiji. In our parliament the current set of MPs has an increase in the number of women compared to the past parliament members. Fiji now has 10 women out of the 51 total members of parliament. With the increase, alot of women are being inspired to break the barrier of women deprivation from leadership and management.

Special focus on waste management.

Fiji is a developing country and with this comes how waste can be managed. In city areas,the management has in placed some special projects in the collection of green waste and it's disposal.
In the photo below, a small town of Nasinu where I live has integrated a monthly initiative to a cleaner Nasinu.This is where our Fiji Military Officers works hand in hand with the town council and the Nasinu residents in the collection of green wastes.

The approach of SDG #12 in my community I could say is positiveand we are getting there. This might be bacause most Fijians rely solely on this natural resources for daily survival.An example of this approach is in the photo below.
Fiji has a Gold mine company that's in the western part of Fiji called Vatukoula. The economic side of this is positive and so the environmental effect is what the government is also concerned with. So to sustain the environment and natural resources the Minerals Department does monthly inspection on the rivers and streams near the mining industrial area. They do water quality test and sampling to see that the marine organisms aren't affected.

This is a pic of a "repair café". Different clubs or organisations (e.g. the red cross) offer to come with your broken stuff to these events and there are people who try to fix them.

There are domestic violence organisations and programmes that offer support to victims in the area I live in Upstate New York in the States. Many of them are women and they offer counselling and empowerment methods for them to reach their full potential. One organisation includes the Grace Smith house.

Green map is the local Belarusian web page showing the places for responsible recycling depending on the material. The project is supported by Centre of Environmental solutions and UN. This map is a great tool because the're not a lot of public places where we can responsibly recycle.

Executive Parish Board of the place I live in. 
As you can see in the poster,  the % of women in politics is quite low. In Portugal the number of women in decision areas is still quite low (even though thigs are changing in a rather average rate). This situation is weird because for the last 30 years or so women have been the dominant sex on Universities. The number of women with a degree is high in Portugal, the number of women working outside their houses is quite elevated here and this  which has helped in the redefinition of traditional roles.
 The sharing of domestic chores, the representation of women in politics, on decision areas however,  are still our Achilles' heel. The younger generations are now reversing the numbers but there is still a lot of work to be done in this area.

Local Examples - Portugal

Portugal has been investing in the area of sustainability. Things could be better and more investment could be made, especially in
forest requalification, solar and sea wave energy. However, a lot has been done in the area of depollution of rivers and requalification of riversade and coastline. City Councils have also invested in this area as shown in the picture below. This is the river that goes through the place I live. The river used to be so polluted we couldn't get near it during summer.As you can see, not only can you see the bottom because the water is so clean, you can also practice sport or sightsee on its banks. Much of this has been happening due to community pressure. People are much more aware of ecological and environmental issues, so the pressure on politics and politicians is higher :)

Portugal - Sustainability

E.U. policies and restrictions have had a huge impact on small agricultural explorations. Most have disappeard. I believe a county/region should be autonomous in this field. It creates local employment and decreases the environmental footprint. Therefore I'm a huge supporter of companies that invest in this area. As everyone knows, Portugal has a big costline and "Algaplus" is a Portuguese company that explres, develops and invests in sea products that help reduce the ecological footprint and promote sustainable well being.

Women are kidnapped, raped and killed everyday in Mexico.
Mexico has the highest rate in child pregnancies in the OCDE, men who get these children pregnant (even at the age of 9yo) are often fathers, uncles, brothers, cousins and grandfathers.
Women have organised more and more protests to achieve human rights and to fight the enormus ammount of feminicides in the country.

Most cities in Mexico are far from sustainable development. Yet, Mexico City has been setting a great example for the country (and the World). In 1992 it was declared the most polluted city in the world, but thanks to the implementation of several measures and programs, it decreased by up to 82% the pollutants concentration in just 20 years.
The city’s center was restored, some streets were turned into exclusively pedestrian, parks have been also restored, mobility programs such as “Hoy no circula” (a permanent program in which each car can’t be used for a day everyweek), a bike sharing program; and infrastructure improvement such as the creation of many km of bike roads.
During COVID the city implemented new bike roads on the most important avenue in the city, which crosses the city from North to South.

Women in Rural Kenya

Although progress has been realized in terms of women equality in Kenya more needs to be done with regards to policy implementations regarding gender equality, women in leadership as few women occupy positions of power both in the private sector and in government/politics, gender pay gap is also huge but the major issue is the marginalization of women in rural areas who still lag behind in terms of education, opportunities and access to resources and therefore more needs to be done to empower women particularly in the rural areas.

In the last few years a lot of progress has been achieved in Kenya in terms of growth and development of cities however more needs to be done in terms of green spaces, clean water, sustainable energy, safe and affordable housing for everyone for SDG 11 to be achieved.

Kenya outlawed single-use plastic bags in 2017, but there are still no laws requiring corporations that profit from single-use plastic bottles to clean up what they produce.
The evidence is clear in and around the nation’s cities. Discarded PET bottles line roadsides and drainage ditches like confetti. Swathes of rivers flow beneath floating canopies of the stuff – waste that eventually ends up in lakes and oceans.
During the rainy season, the problem becomes dire when plastic waste clogs drainage systems, contributing to mass flooding. despite having a waste management policy in place implementation is a problem. For Kenya to achieve SDG 12 Kenya will need to implement its policy on waste management.
