The non- dialogue film, The Black hole, displays an office-like setting with the camera tracking slowly to the right-hand side of the screen to show the main and only character in the short film an office worker. The man is shown to look extremely bored whilst printing out paper when he accidentally prints one with singular black hole. Looking confused, he places the paper to his side and continues printing. The man takes a sip from his drink and places it down onto the paper beside him only for it to fall into the hole on the paper. The man reaches into it and grabs his drink back. It is shown to the audience with a close up shot that he has an idea and bring his paper over to the vending machine, reaches through the black hole and grabs a chocolate bar. He then, using the hole, enters a room with ‘KEEP OUT’ written on it. Once he enters, there is a safe in the room, the man grabs money from the safe using the hole and places it beside him. A fast-paced sequence builds up in speed, displaying him rushing and rushing to grab as much as he can, however he gets too greedy and attempts to reach to the back of the safe by climbing inside the black hole, however, the paper falls off the safe, onto the floor telling the audience that the man in now trapped inside the safe.

I am able to understand the story from visuals alone as the camera often switches to what the man is looking at, such as the vending machine or the door that has ‘KEEP OUT’ written onto it, almost as if it displays his thoughts and tells the audience what his next move is.

What stood out to me about the history of film is that it was stumbled across by mistake. Film was established as almost as if it is a magic trick where our eyes view a still photo for a fifth of a second and don’t notice the change in between the two photos which makes it seem as if it’s a moving photo, when in reality it’s a series of still photographs changing fast enough for our brain to not notice they are changing.

First film shot in colour 1917.

First traditionally animated feature 1937.

First use of CGI 1973.

First film on VHS 1976.

First blockbuster film 1975.

First film to gross 1 billion dollars worldwide 1998 .

The first film released in surround sound was Fantasia in 1940 created by Disney. The key figures involved in the creation of fantasia where the animators as this film was entirely animated and was the longest animated feature Disney has ever created. Surround sound had a massive impact on the film industry as the audience loved it due to how immersive it made watching it which caused every theatre to get it and every new movie to be made using it in order to attract the attention of anybody possible. Surround sound was also perfect to use in Fantasia as sound itself played a massive part in the film with the magic, the characters and creatures in the film were all made extremely immersive with surround sound. Surround sound has changed the film watching experience for everybody because it makes it seem although you aren’t simply watching a film, you become a part in the film.

Men in an observatory plan to go to the moon.

The men build the rocket to head to the moon.

The men are shot up to the moon and celebrate.

The men explore the moon and find a cave.

They encounter multiple aliens which they attack.

The men are sent to an alien fortress type place and escape.

The aliens follow the men as they run back to the ship and head back off to earth.

Everyone celebrates and the men are rewarded by the king.

I can tell that the men are in an observatory as they background is painted as one and I am aware that the men are planning to head to the moon as the men plan this out on a chalkboard with a diagram. The men are next clearly shown to be building a rocket as they are all working on it with hammers. The audience is next clearly shown that the men head to the moon as the people around them have a type of ceremony as they head off to the moon and when they arrive on the moon, earth is shown behind them. The men then head off the screen and the background changed into a cave indicating that they have gone exploring and stumbled across a cave. The men are then faced with a creature that looks intimidating and unrecognisable showing the audience that they have found an alien. They attack and it disappears in a cloud of smoke however, more come after them and take them to their ‘king’ we are shown this as the environment changes again to a man-made type of environment where one alien is sitting on a throne. The men break off and runaway and the rocket travels back to earth. Once the men are back on earth, we are shown that the men are rewarded by a significant figure as they are awarded with what appears to be a special sort of hat and a gigantic badge.

Many techniques shown in the film confuse me today which is extremely surprising due to the age of the film, however, I can recognise a few techniques shown in the film. When the men fought the alien, it was clear that when the man went to attack, the alien moved off camera and a smoke machine or something like one was set off to let off the Smokey effect. Another technique I can notice was when the rocket was sent back down to earth and landed in the ocean, the rocket was shown in the background of a painted environment with real living fish. The way this was achieved was by simply using a fish tank and overlaying the painted background in front of the fish tank. One other thing which I could even do myself is when the rocket lands on the moon it is shown by someone with their face painted white with a rocket ship landed on the face of the person. Throughout the film, one out of the men who went to the moon was shown as superior to the others as he was often shown telling them what to do and often shown to be up higher than the others, for example at the start when the men plan on going to the moon the ‘leader’ was the one telling them the plan and he was on a type of podium. The set design was almost completely hand painted as every single background in the film appeared to be pained by hand, sometimes even interactive objects in the film were hand painted, for example the rocket used to go to the moon. When the men arrived on the moon, it was shown to be turning to night time, this was cleverly shown as the background of the set, which was once higher, lowered down behind them and the painting of Earth in the sky moved higher until it was off camera.

The Kuleshov effect is displayed in the editing process where film is cut to a close up shot of a character to portray a character in a certain manor. This was originally displayed by a video of soup cut to a video of a man, this tells the audience that the man is hungry. The next video is of a dead girl in a coffin and is then cut to the man again with the same blank expression on his face, this then tells the audience that the man is sad. The last shot was of a woman laying on a sofa, the video then cuts back to the man which indicated to the audience that his is lustful. The Kuleshov effect displays how important the editing is in a film in storytelling. An example of this is in breaking bad when Walt knows that Gus is going to send Jessie to kill him so he has to convince Jessie to turn on Gus. Walt ends up doing this by poisoning Jessie's girlfriend's son with a flower called Lilly of the valley. In The scene were Walt is given this idea, he looks depressed and ready to give up. Walt spins a gun on the table next to his 2 times, both of which end up pointing towards him. Walt spins the gun one more time which ends up pointing to a group of white flowers (Poisonous flowers) The camera then pans back to Walter indicating that he has an idea.

There are 3 main types of fade, Fade, dip to black and dip to white. A fade has been regularly used longer then most transitions. A dip to black is typically used at the start or the end of a film or a chapter in the film, for example Pulp fiction uses it as 3 chapters the give the audience a breather. A dip to white can usually transition into a dream or leave the end to conspiration.

The Killer at collage review

  The killer at collage review.

The story throughout the film is conveyed clearly through the acting and timeline. Max enters college and greets his mate who points to a poster which tells the situation the college is facing. Max then takes this poster and attempts to solve this mystery by himself. He then asks two of his friends about this killer, the first one does not know but the second one knows the location of where the collage killer hides. Tom then draws the location of where the killer hides and the picture is then used as a transition to the next location. Max then ends up being killed by the collage killer. If one thing about the story is not shown, it would be how Tom knew where the killer’s exact location was.

The cinematography starts with a wide shot of Max entering the collage and greeting Malachi. The next shot is a close of the poster of the collage killer. The shot after that is another close-up of max coming closer to take down the photo. We then have a mid-shot of max walking away from Malachi which pans to Max talking to another one of his friends about the killer. We then have another Mid-shot of Max walking over to Tom which tracks behind him and pans round to a better view of the table. Then a close of the drawing which dissolves to the completed version of the drawing which then is moved out of shot to reveal the exact location drawn. Then as Max explores the location the camera stays as a static wide shot. Max then finds a clue and the killer comes out and kills him from another wide shot angle. If there is one thing I would change about the cinematography, it would be a larger array of close-up shots as max is exploring.

I did enjoy the film because I like the concept (I even took inspiration on my own story about a collage killer.) And there were some good camera shots, for example that one where Max walks away from Malachi to talk to Fletcher.

How effectively is the story communicated?

The story is easily identifiable with the message on Brooke's phone showing that people know there's a killer in the college. And the looking around and the figure looking directly at Brooke makes me (the audience) realise that that is the killer, and we should be frightened of her.

The actors that block the view for the killer to disappear obviously don't know about the killer and that's why they're happy.

Also, the lighting and darkness of the film shows the

The use of cinematography was very clever with wide shots that show the surroundings and introduce characters. Also, Close ups of Brooke being scared and worried when she gets the message work well and the close of the text on her phone tells you all the information that is needed.

The shot of Ana disappearing is clever and works well other than if you look at the legs, but it adds tension and shows how ominous the situation is.

The high angle shot when Brooke is panicked and walked quickly away was clever and shows that she is distressed

I really enjoyed the film as it was tense and showed the characters well, I struggled to find any criticisms as i liked the high shot a lot and the way they were edited together . However, if i was to create this film i would try to change the camera setting as i felt like it was under expossed and dark (this adds to the tension) Also when brooke was moving the text on her phone was tricky to read. But other than that it is really good and fletcher should be proud

The male gaze

Male Gaze

The ‘Male gaze’ theory is a film theory when women are objectified and seen as an item of pleasure to heterosexual men. The male gaze is usually displayed through women appearing extremely sexual or often dressed in revealing clothing. The Male gaze typically appears in films, written or directed by a male. The male gaze was a concept developed in the early days of film as a way to attract a certain type of audience.

What the male gaze theory tells us about the history of film.

The male gaze theory tells us that in the past in the film and media history, the directors and creators of movies and tv shows were male, this is most likely due to the sexism women faced in the past explaining why women are treated as objects in them.

Is the male gaze theory still relevant?

To this day, the male gaze theory is still relevant and appears in many films. However, this isn't always due to the typical purpose of oversexualizing women for male pleasure, it can be used for comedic purposes or even as a ‘female gaze’. One film that uses the male gaze in a comedic form is Jumanji, welcome to the jungle. Jumanji displays one of the characters in a very sexual way as she is shown to be an attractive women dressed in revealing clothes. However, in one scene she is being used to distract some guards by being ‘sexy’ which is shown in a comedic way due to the backfiring of it. Instead, she ends up fighting them while dancing, displaying that she does not need to act like an object.

Visual media has filled our lives, especially newer generations as they have been bought into it. There are 2 ways of looking at representation, representing the person that is watching, ect if the main character is scared the audience is scared. Another way is representing the world, eg if a certain country is shown to be violent people may believe it. Representation in media is how the media depicts the reality of a situation. The dominant reading of reception is when the views aimed at the audience have been received, eg reading the bad guy of the film or media product of being a bad person. Negotiated reading is when the audience doesn't agree with the overall message of it however, they understand it enough to seek some joy from it. Oppositional reading is when the audience rejects the producer's message despite understanding the message. Sometimes a producer could make something with misunderstood intentions which leads to the audience possibly taking offence.

Review of presentation:

For this task, we were challenged with creating a presentation on a group of people who are represented in a certain way through media, e.g. gays, black people, women etc.

To give us ideas for what group to choose we wrote down a list of 10 groups of people which for me were: Gypsies, Pirates, Sharks, Romans, Psychopaths, Teenagers, school children, Millwall fans, Prisoners, and the middle class. Eventually I narrowed down my chosen group to be Psychopaths. The main reasons behind why I chose Psychopaths was because I had recently watched the films; American Psycho, Halloween and various other horror films with ‘psychopathic’ killers. The second reason being that I know a psychopath myself who is very unlike how they are shown through film. To research for my presentation, I used a variety of sources such as Psychopath interviews, Therapist explanations and my own knowledge. These sources were reliable as they were all from legitimate websites or they were professional psychologists talking about it. The source of info that helped me the most was probably a YouTube channel I found called SPDA. This channel focused on interviews with psychopath patients and various other mental illnesses such as sociopaths and schizophrenic people. This channel managed to give me the evidence to back up the point about not all psychopaths being murderers. Once I had the information I needed from the sources, I began to make the presentation as visually and aesthetically pleasing as I could, sticking to a theme of black and red running throughout it. This colour scheme was due to the majority of films including psychopaths being horror films about murderers often having the only psychopathic person in a film being the antagonist. If I was given this task again, I don't think I would research any differently to how I did as it was a reliable and accurate form of research. Most of the research I did didnt teach me anything new aside from a psychologist's view of American psycho, they were saying he wasn’t a psychopath as he had much stronger symptoms of Schizotypal personality disorder and OCD. I used this newfound information to prove even further how Psychopaths are wrongly presented in the media.

Moving on to the presentation, I believe that I did a relatively good job presenting my slideshow with only a few little bits of feedback to give. I am overall, pretty contempt with how my presenting skills went as I believe my body language was good and I managed to speak clearly through the most part, only having one stutter which stopped me completely. My body language throughout the presentation was better than I had imagined once I had rewatched the clip of my presentation and I tried my best to keep my hands busy as if I was ‘handing a sandwich’ to someone. I believe that my research was clearly presented to the audience as once I had read the slide with the information on it, I then explained with my own knowledge and attempted to simplify the psychologist’s words into my own. My confidence in presenting has increased as I wasn’t too keen on the idea of using psychopaths as my group of people and the fact it turned out better than I had imagined definitely boosted my confidence. I have realized, with preparation comes confidence. In future presentations, I think the main thing I need to improve is a greater knowledge of my slides, so instead of reading from the slides and explaining it, I wouldn’t have to look at the slides to know what I’m talking about, this will also make the presentation seem more professional.

Despite this I still like what I managed to create. During the editing process, I applied all of the primary sound effects first and the added in secondary sound effects in order to create a type of music with the sounds. I only used two effects while editing, an echo and an effect called 'Jump to hyperspace'. From this experiment I have learnt how to use adobe auditioner and to my own beliefs, I have learnt how to use it quite well and in the future, would be confident to continue using it.

In Pre-production we were grouped up into groups of 4: Me, Max, Tom and Malakai. We were then given a choice of 5 film clips to watch and re-create the sound. Out of the 5 films we eventually decided to settle on Ghost busters as we thought the sound would be the most fun to re-create. The next thing we did in pre-production was plan the script, write the character list, and write the sounds and how we make them. Malakai wrote the script, me and Max did the sound list and Tom wrote the character list and then helped me and Max once he finished.

On the day of production we came into collage with our preparations, balloons, A dog bowl, smarties, cans, a football, cereal, slime and a Smint box. To begin with on the sound, we recorded the ambiance. We moved around collage attempting to find the best place for a quiet hallway. We went outside a few classrooms as it was very quiet like a hotel's hallway, however the sound was disturbed multiple times. Eventually, Max had the brilliant idea of simply recording the audio in our classroom and asking everyone to be quiet. To make this ambiance sound the best, we decided to turn on the air conditioning to give it even more background noise. This ended up being our best option for ambiance. The next step in our recording was the footsteps. In order to re-create the sound of walking on carpet, we had carpet tiles to walk on. Before recording, we watched the video to look at Ray's movement as we cannot see his feet moving. We then came to the conclusion that he was moving in a sort of sloppy manor. Max then volunteered to walk on the carpet whilst watching ray walk and attempted to sync his footsteps to ray's. This was then repeated with any other character walking. The next thing we did was record the dialogue in the recording studio. Max saying Ray's lines, Me saying Venkman's, Tom saying Elon's and Malakai making Slimer noises. We then went into the recording rooms and began using our Foley skills to recreate the sounds that we can't literally do, eg an explosion. The first thing we recorded in the Foley room was the switch flicking on the proton pack. We achieved this by closing an empty Smint box as it sounds similar to a switch being flicked. The next thing we recorded was an idea from Max. We had to re-create an explosion when Ray attempts to shoot Slimer. For this idea we filled a balloon with Smarties and blew it up. After that we popped it and recorded it. The balloon popping would be the initial explosion and the Smarties falling would be the debris falling after. We also wanted the proton packs to make a clinking sound when moving around as in order to do this we clinked two coke cans together to make it sound like it's moving with the characters running. We also put some chains in a dog food bowl and rattled it to achieve the sound of cutlery on the table when its rolling along. We also dropped the dog bowl and recorded it to be a layer in the scene were the trolley crashes into the wall. The majority of the sounds in that sequence have to be added in from non-primary sound as it was extremely hard to create the sound of plates smashing without actually smashing plates.

Post-production actually started slightly during pre production, This was due to us waiting for our group's turn to record the dialogue so, working with the sounds we had already recorded, We all began the editing process. The first thing I did when editing was adding the ambience and also matching the footsteps to the characters walking, along with the clothes rustling. By the time I had finished this it was time for our group to begin recording. Once we had finished this the next thing I added to the editing was the dialogue. The dialogue had some problems with it as max said his lines too fast of a few occasions. The way around this problem that I had found was to slow the audio down slightly and cut it in-between each word to match the time of Ray's lines, Tom helped me with this demonstrating once again how well this group worked. Once all of the dialogue was covered the rest of the sound effects followed rather simply. The Foley sounds that we created were added in first and once all of those were covered, the sound I had found online came next. After this I had finished the editing process of my audio and all that was left was to export it and add it to my hard drive, however I was faced with a problem with this that James helped me with. Due to the fact that I had been working on Windows computers with my hard drive before, I was unable to access it on the mac computers (which was the computer I was working on.) The solution to this problem was to re-format my hard drive to work for apple. The way I achieved this was by downloading everything on my hard drive onto the computer and clearing my hard drive and then re-formatting it once it had been cleared. After this all that was left to do was add it into Premire Pro and add it into my Padlett website.

In this project, the thing I have enjoyed the most is without a doubt the Foley sounds, not necessarily creating the noises but thinking of what to objects and tools to use whilst writing down the sound list. I also enjoyed the recording dialogue in the studio. The main and only problem we have encountered was struggling to re-create the sound of plates smashing without actually smashing plates and the only outcome we have came to is finding the sounds online and adding them in whilst editing. Prior to this project, I have never used adobe audition before but in comparison from the start of the project, my skills have increased quite a lot, when I first started using it I was pretty much just adding sounds to the timeline, however, I managed to learn quickly how to grasp the software as I was playing around with it so much and experimenting. The best part of the project so far was the dialogue recording as we all managed to recreate the character's lines (especially Malakai). The worst part of this project was the tray crashing's sound effects as it uses secondary sources for the smashing plates instead of just recording it ourselves. Our team has worked very well together and we have all had very good collaborative ideas.

Research and development

In the research stage of this project, we had been taught about diegetic and non-diegetic sound as well as Foley sound and how different sound effects could change a situation, e.g., In Quinten Tateno’s movie, Kill Bill, Whenever a ‘bad guy’ is hurt or injured, the sound to fit with it is almost comical like if a character fell over, you would hear the sound of bowling pins falling in comparison to the main character who would have a more realistic, graphic sound to it to make the audience feel bad for her. We also learned about single system and double system sound and how different microphone’s work like shotgun mics. Prior to our lesson on the topic, I had heard of Foley art, however I didn't know much about it. After our lesson on Foley art, I had started to notice sounds in movies and picturing how somebody would create those sounds using Foley. After that lesson one of the first film I watched was a favorite of mine, Fight club. Once scene in particular stood out to me for the sound. The scene I am referring to was when the narrator was fighting angel face, he gets carried away and beats him mercilessly and claims that he wanted to destroy something beautiful. The sound in this scene is unique as the background noise is muffled indicating that the narrator is in some kind of trance where he isn't focusing on anything except fighting. The sounds of the narrator punching angel face are extremely graphic and loud compared to everything else in this scene, really showing the bloody brutality of what happened. This piqued my interest, and I searched up after, how those punching sounds were created, and it was from slapping chicken breast against a counter. The main area of research that I could’ve improved would be about would be how microphone’s work and about single system and double system sound.

Pre-Production and Production

In Pre-production the first thing we did was experiment with adobe audition. For this first task we had to edit the audio of two or more people talking and we just edit the audio to it. Once we had finished this topic and got the general idea of the software, we moved onto a topic that was more like our eventual one. We had a silent clip from the series daredevil, and we had to find secondary sources to replace the sound effects. I enjoyed this task loads because I didn't have to take it too seriously and we could get to learn audition better. The next thing we did was get into groups of 3 or 4. The group we had chosen was me, Malakai, Tom and Max. We were then given a choice of 5 films to choose from to recreate the sound. The one we had decided on was Ghost busters as the sound looked the most interesting and fun to recreate. The next part of pre-production was creating the sound list, character list and script. Malakai chose to write the script, Me and Max made the sound list, and Tom wrote the character list, and once he had finished that he joined me and max to help with the creative process of the sound. My favorite idea for our Foley sound was our recreation of an explosion which was Max’s idea. First of all, we watched the clip back a few times on that one specific bit. We came to the conclusion that we needed more than just a simple bang and that we needed some kind of sound to re-create debris falling. Max then had the idea to blow a balloon up and fill it with smarties and not everybody was sure about the idea at first, however it managed to impress everyone and seemed very realistic and well done. Once all of this was finished our group moved on to production. On the day of production everybody brought in whatever resources they could for production, however we had to later go and buy more for our Foley as we didn't have balloons, smarties or slime. The first thing we did when it came to recording was the ambience was attempting to find a large, but quiet space in the collage to record. However, nothing was quiet enough to resemble a hotel hallway. Eventually, we realized that the best place to record the ambience was in our classroom, so we recorded the ambience in our classroom as it was perfect for a hotel corridor. The next thing we recorded was the steps of the characters; however, they had to sound like they were on carpet floors instead of the hard floors in collage. To resolve this problem, we had panels of carpet flooring. When we recorded the actual audio, the person who was walking watched the characters walking and tried their best to replicate the sound they would make when walking. We also recorded clothes rustling after this. Once we had done these basics, we moved on to dialogue (which I thought was one of the most fun parts of the topic) and once we had finished recording all of the dialogue we moved into the more interesting Foley sounds such as an explosion, cutlery rattling on a trolley and other fun interesting things like those. Only one problem occurred with the production and that is that we were unable to create the sound of plates smashing, we were also unable to re-create the sound of the proton pack powering up and shooting without the use of machinery. The solution that we had to come to was to find the sounds through a secondary source.

Post-production and outcome

We started the editing process halfway through production, this was due to the studio being used, so instead of standing around and doing nothing, we decided to begin the editing process to save time. However, all that we really did in that amount of time was add the ambience and attempt to time the footsteps at the pace of the characters walking. Once we had finished recording the dialogue we immediately went back to editing. The next thing I added to after the footsteps was the rustling of clothing and dialogue. Had a few problems with the dialogue as Max spoke quite a few of his lines too fast, to solve this problem and make max speaking match up to ray’s mouth movements, I had to slightly slow down the clip and cut it up in places. Finally, once the dialogue had been finished, all of the other sound effects that we made using Foley followed. Lastly the final thing that I had to include was the secondary source sound effects which turned out better than I had imagined as usually It is hard to find decent sounds online. Once I had finished editing, I had to save my final copy of my audition edit, put it in Premier pro and export it, however I had encountered a problem when I attempted to save it to my hard drive. Because I had previously been using a windows computer with my hard drive, the format of the hard drive had been changed to fit only with a windows computer. The problem with this Is that I had finished my edit on an apple computer. The conclusion that I had come to with James was to move everything in my hard drive onto the desktop, clear the files in the hard drive and reformat it so that it works with mac. I have thoroughly enjoyed this project due mostly to the incredibly creative aspect of this task and how much you can experiment and play around with it. I have learned a ton of new editing skills in this project as I have learnt a new software to use that I haven't even heard of before. One moment that I am happy with is the first part of the clip where ray walks up and sees slimer, this is due to the slimer sounds being so realistic and matching the movie, another reason why I like this part so much is due to the many layers of sounds used in this part to give off that proper, movie type of vibe. Another part I was happy with was the explosion as it sounded extremely realistic. I believe the main difference between my version and the original clip is that the original clip of ghost busters has less realistic vibe matching the sound, and it seems more comical. My version of the clip seems as realistic as it gets.

Tune trivia is a gameshow based on guessing music tracks with different game modes.

The reasons why we have chosen this idea for our tv show are because, we have the equipment to do it, there is no big cash prize ( because we don't have that much money) , Everyone has knowledge of music, It's easy to think of questions as there is little to no research required and there are quick rounds meaning it won't take ages to film.

The class was split into two groups of 7 and 8. Each person in the group then had to present their ideas for their tv show to each person in the group. Malachi's one was a gameshow called 'cash spinner', Malakai's was a panel show named 'What do you think of me?' Tom's was a panel show called 'Out of pocket' and Max's was a talk show called 'The very late show'. Once everybody had finished presenting, each person from the group voted for who's idea they liked the best. The person's idea we decided on was Brooke's. We then had to list 5 reasons why we chose Brooke's and those reasons were:

1- we have the equipment to do it

2- There's no big cash prize

3- Everyone has knowledge of music

4- Easy to think of questions as no research needed

5- There are quick rounds so it wont take ages to film

Once we had chosen an idea, we then established job roles between ourselves in the group, me and Malachi operators, Max is the floor manager, Tom is lighting director, Malakai is the vision mixer, Ana is audio manager and Brooke is the director as it is her production.

To begin with, Malakai began writing the script, Me and Max drew up ideas for logos and once we had come up with a good idea and visualized it, Malachi, using photoshop, brought the idea to life. While, Malachi was photoshoping our logo, Me and Max went to help Tom, Brooke and Ana to choose questions. After this we made Q cards for our gameshow host explaining the gameshow and telling them what to do/say. We made the Q cards out of cardboard and the logo printed on a sheet of paper. While we were creating the Q cards, Ana was finding sound effects and adding them to a word document to use in the gameshow. The next thing we all did was think out set design and how we could decorate the set to make it seem more like an actual game show instead of just a basic plane set. At first, we liked the idea of having a backdrop of some colored red card, however we decided not to use this as the backdrop as we have previously decided that the lighting should be pink and green and obviously the pink would clash with the red card, so we stuck with the regular background. However, we still wanted to decorate the wall in one way or another, so our plan was to cut out music notes that we printed, decorate them and stick them to the wall in the back. We printed out a few music notes, some pink and some green. We then cut those notes out and stuck glitter to them. After this we stuck them to some black card and silo taped them to the wall. We were happy with how the background looked and we decided it was time to move onto the foreground as it still seemed plain. We decided that the areas that needed to be spiced up were the host’s standing area and the seating areas for the contestants. Our solution to this problem was to yet again get creative and use art. For the Contestants Areas we made two different signs to stick to the table, one that said, ‘green team’ and another that said, ‘pink team’. As for the Host’s area we had found a tall, thin, black, block, we decided that this was still too plain for the set, so we found a piece of large cardboard the same size as the block and painted it in a gradient from purple around the edges to a light pink in the center. Once we had done this, we stuck any spare green music notes to the cardboard and stuck this to the block. After this we were happy with our set design aside from a reward for the winner. Our idea for the winner was a fake checkque for £10,000 so I found a piece of spare white carboard and copied another fake checkque for 10 grand. This would then be the reward for the winner of the show. After this we decided to use an online wheel spinner to decide what genre of music we would use for the questions as it would make Ana's job easier instead of sorting through loads of songs to see which ones to play. We also decided to put all of this onto a slideshow so we could play it on the screen in the background of the set. Once we had finished all of these preparation tasks, we thought we were ready to film. Before we moved onto the final film of the gameshow, we had a few test runs to see how well the game played and what worked and what didn’t. The conclusion we had after the practice was that we needed to run the host through the rules of the game better so that he could have a better understanding of the rules and how it is supposed to play, we needed to bring a cable with us to connect the board in the studio to show the audience and contestants the spinning wheel and the last thing we needed was a wireless speaker to play the music louder for the contestants and microphones to pick up. On the day of filming, we grabbed our contestants, host and ran the host through the rules of the game and how the game is supposed to be played in much more detail than we did last time. Once we started recording, overall, the show went smoothly and played much better than last time, on top of this it was entertaining to watch. I believe that all the roles given to us were perfect for each one of us aside from Brooke and Tom and I believe their roles should be swapped as Tom was able to manage the group better. Once we had the recording we needed to boost the volume as it was too quiet so Me, Brooke and Ana opened up Premire Pro and boosted the audio.

Research and development:

In the research and development stage of this project, we had looked at all the roles in a tv show and what each person with that role does such as for example, the vision mixer, who switches between cameras and feeds graphics ensuring a cohesive experience for the viewers. The next thing we did was research 3 tv shows and make it into a PowerPoint explaining what the Tv show is, the host and cast (if any) and why people like it. The 3 tv shows I chose to research were; Would I lie to you, Taskmaster and Celebrity Juice. After we had finished this we then had to create our own ideas for a TV show and make it into a slideshow.

Pre-Production:

The class was then put into groups of 7 and My group was; Me, Max, Malachi, Malakai, Tom, Brooke and Ana. Once grouped up we had to present our ideas for our Tv shows to one another and decide on what show we we’re going to make. My show was a panel show called consequences, and it was based on a decision on what the public would choose. An example question would be something like ‘You have the ability to fly, however, you are blinded when you do.’ The panel would then have to decide whether most people would say yes or no to the question. However, the show we all decided on was Brooke’s music gameshow where from hearing a small snippet of a song, you have to name the song title and the artist who sang it. We then had to list 5 reasons why we chose Brooke's, and those reasons were: 1- we have the equipment to do it 2- There's no big cash prize 3- Everyone has knowledge of music 4- Easy to think of questions as no research needed 5- There are quick rounds so it won't take ages to film. Once we had chosen this idea, we had established job roles for our cast having Me and Malachi as cameramen, Tom on lighting, Ana on sound, Brooke as Director, Malaki on vision mixer and Max as floor manager. To begin the Pre-production, we all had been assigned to Jobs to begin with. Me, Max and Malachi made the logo, Malakai began writing the script and everybody else was tasked with choosing music for the questions. Me, Max and Malachi began drawing out ideas for the logo, Me and Max combined our ideas on paper and Malachi visualized it on photoshop. While Malachi was doing this me and Max went over to help with the music and questions. Once we had done this we created Q cards by printing out our logo and sticking the logo to some cardboard. Our idea for the winner was a fake checkqe for £10,000 so I found a piece of spare white carboard and copied another fake checkque for 10 grand. This would then be the reward for the winner of the show. After this we decided to use an online wheel spinner to decide what genre of music we would use for the music questions. We also decided that we needed to pre- record the wheel spinning to land on two genres to make the music selection job easier for Ana instead of sorting through loads of songs to find one in a short period of time.

Production:

On the day of filming, we grabbed our contestants, host and ran the host through the rules of the game and how the game is supposed to be played in much more detail than we did last time. Once we started recording, overall, the show went smoothly and played much better than last time, on top of this it was entertaining to watch. I believe that all the roles given to us were perfect for each one of us aside from Brooke and Tom and I believe their roles should be swapped as Tom was able to manage the group better.

Conclusion:

I think that our group worked well in the production phase well, however we could be better. This is due to us all being close friends and maybe not as much work was put into each project as desired, however we still did a good job and made a well-planned and entertaining TV show. I think I performed well on my role as Cameraman, especially since I was the only camera that moved as all the other Cameras were in fixed positions. My Camera needed to zoom into the board to show the wheel spinning and the genre chosen. I didn’t necessarily develop any new skills in this role as I already knew how to use one of these cameras prior to this project, however I believe I improved on these skills and was able to maneuver the camera more smoothly than before. These skills will help me in future projects as being able to move a camera smoothly is a very important task. I feel that the final recording went well as none of us did anything wrong in our Jobs and the contestants and host did a really good job in their roles too.
