I will need to develop my skills of using lines to express different things such as shade/shadow and shape. My idea develops as I create my art piece because I have to add where the lights shines on to my figure I am going to draw.

I would like my artwork to express whatever feelings and emotion I decide to use. I want the viewers to understand the artwork in a deep and meaningful way.

To create this piece, I would have to know how to work with resin so that I can create depth within the piece. I am creating a mysterious ocean “diorama” so it is very important that the ocean looks deep and secretive. I would also need to understand how to assemble a stable side table, and precisely use a knife (to cut into the book).

I would like the audience to feel as if they’ve escaped into the book, as if the magical and mysterious settings described in them actually exist. I want them to feel like the main character, and realize that they can create the world they want to live in. 

Some of my favorite artists include Benjamin Shine, Daniel Arsham, Iris Van Herpen, Guo Pei, and Leandro Erlich. Although these artist’s works share little similarities to mine, they all show interesting use of material and shape. The artist who influenced my ideas most is Mitch Gobel; a famous Australian resin artist. He creates ocean-like artwork and according to him, “The majority of the materials I use are poured, and the fluidity of those materials present a constant challenge, my intention is always to create space for the art to be its own creation while simultaneously manipulating and controlling the outcome.” My intentions for the ocean aspect of my artwork was similar to his. I wanted the ocean to look as real as possible, so I used a liquid material instead of a solid one in hopes that it would flow the same natural way an ocean would.

This painting started out as an idea based on geometry and symmetry, I then expanded the idea by adding a relatable aspect to the painting like our own Earth. I started to paint this by painting the canvas all black, this would later be painted over with 2 more coats of acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is my media for the whole painting process as it will create a dense and strong color to show strength in the shape. I then drew out some patterns on the Earth, I chose to make most of the shapes triangles as only the tips would connect showing the slowly developing connection between the whole world. I then coloured in the patterns with the help of masking tape and used a brush to “spray” white paint on the space section using masking tape again to block paint from touching the Earth. I decided that I would try to create the Earth as big as possible with the compass we had in-order to create more complex patterns without overdoing the painting. The colours I used were bold with some being pale to show diversity. Lastly the texture was smooth to show how well the Earth is doing. If I were to have a second chance of making this painting again, I think that I would add a sun in-order to add more geometrical aspects to the painting. Besides that, I might even shift to drawing our Solar system in a bigger canvas as I think it would allow for more creativity. My top 5 choices in terms of paintings created in this unit are Alex’s, Najann’s, Mai’s, Punn’s, and Amir’s. I like Alex’s because of the possibilities that were created in his painting. Najann’s painting used gravity in its favor to create a very mesmerising print, I think that it was very creative. Mai’s usage of sponges to create clouds worked like magic, the way that the sponges create clouds easily that look realistic are amazing. Punn’s artwork was a display of skill, he drew the whole drawing by hand including the patterns on Godzilla which not to mention looked amazing. Lastly, Amir’s painting was very abstract and had good usage of color, the way he used different textures made the painting look amazing. I think that the painting cou be improved by adding more geometrical aspects and more objects to the painting. As mentioned, I believe that painting a solar system instead of an Earth would give me more opportunities to use more geometrical aspects. I think that I could also pay more attention to the line and shapes that I painted on the Earth, the lines may have leaked through the tape and created some random marks. I also believe that I rushed the painting at some certain stages, I think that this may affect the evenness of the color and how bold it is.

My idea for the patterned Earth came from Damien Hirst’s called the butterfly, it generated a circular shape with multiple types of patterns of butterflies. I then got the idea to make “sprayed on stars” when I observed Alex’s early stages of painting, I wanted to use the same painting technique to do my stars. I think that the painting ended up looking as I wanted it to with all aspects intended.

My artwork is named The Night, My artwork has a meaning of truth and mystery because when I was young, my grandparents told me that the night is full of mystery and darkness, but the moon will shine and show us the truth. One question just came right in my head when I was thinking about my ideas, that if the noon shows us the truth, what will happen if the noon grows bigger, and I surprisingly got my idea. I decided my color, texture, scales, and type font by experiencing, I draws lightly using color pencil to figure out which one will fit on my artwork better. I would really like to decide my idea and just stay on it if I can do it again because I actually changed my idea while painting so it looks a bit messy and I need to use back to cover my old painting which caused it to  lost a bit of its beauty. I really like my classmate, Jessica’s drawing because I think she used the geometry well and has a wonderful color changing, I also like my classmate, Rose’ artwork because I think she used a lot of details and formed a beautiful artwork. I can improve my artwork by adding more details to the moon and maybe add some people in the painting which will makes it looks more meaningful. Mark Rothko has inspired me a lot at my coloring, I like how he change his color in his painting, and I am actually also inspired by Tracy Emin even though we have totally different style, but my entire idea came from her painting. It may not be as clear as I want it to be, but the real meaning I want my audiences to know is don’t make life change you in to someone you hates, just be yourself, and all the lies and darkness will get far away from you.

When we started drawing I was a little bad at art, I like drawing but I never draw. This time when I started, I was a little bad but when we did more and more drawings, I had better skills. Know I am drawing and using art correctly when I say correctly I mean beautiful. I am not saying that I draw so good but better, the more you draw or practice the better and faster you will have skills. Now I will try to draw more at home so I don’t lose my skills again. When I drew first I was not sure what I am doing, but now when I draw or use paint I am so sure, and I like it. I just did what my hands did, I didn't know how to use them I just used them all, but in different paintings. I texture a lot but I did use it one time. I used it on my final idea, which was kind of texture but I decided it step by step, first I did only black and said it’s enough but then I did more and more then it becomes beautiful. The next time I would change nothing, but I would practice more and think more about my idea to make my art look better. Then I would be more accurate and clear so I don’t make mistakes. I don’t want to make too many paintings in there, don’t overdo it and make it better. I like 5 arts but I can’t decide the best. The one I like is Alex's work because it’s unusual when you do something using a brush for making dots on a painting. The second is Najjan when she spilled the paint on the paper. Also third is Punn because he did a lot of Godzilla. Poon did very cool art using shapes. I like Melvins work but I think it’s not the final idea of the heart with chains. I would improve myself by making it beautiful and more understandable so anybody can understand what happens there. Use the color better and mix them better. I want to think more about the idea, so it can look smarter and also more beautiful. I would practice more and be more careful. I always weaned to make art like Pablo Picasso I think he is my favorite artist. He always makes beautiful art and very smart art. HE thinks a lot about his ideas. He usually uses shapes and lines combined with colors.

The way that this idea came to be and inspired was when I was experimenting with sketches and an element of art value which was the main thing that brought this idea to me. Another way this idea came to me is a quote by Kinoko Nasu "An entire sea of water can't sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. Similarity, the negativity of the world can't put you down unless you allow it to get inside of you". Lastly another way this quote inspired me was by making me visualize it and that helped me to create a negative piece of artwork.

During this process, this artwork developed by first researching different artists and their motives. Next I had to analyze and compare 2 different artists about their different types of art. After we had now started the research process on our artwork and what we would like to make. Therefore we started the painting. Next we had to finish our painting process, finish up our artwork and we had to write our stages of the painting process. Lastly we had to write up our artist statement which explains to the audience what they are looking at and what this artwork means.

The way that I decided on the colours mainly stood on the fact that what was my theme since the colours that I wanted to use had to be related to the theme since it wouldn’t make sense if a happy theme had dark colours or vice versa. How I decided on the scale was easy since all I wanted to was take up the space on the board. How I decided on the type font was easy since all I had decided on was I wanted a type font that could be understood in a  clear and easy to read and understandable way.

If I had the chance to do this all over again than something I would improve is my artwork because I wish I did change my artwork because during the painting I had a moment where I had thought of a quote that I could turn into a excellent idea painting “We shape our tools, after our tools shape us.” Another thing that I would want to improve if I could do this again would be my experiments since most of my ideas were random so if I can improve in that then maybe I could’ve reached my best idea.

A way that I could have improved my work is by making my experiments more controlled and focused on 1 topic instead of being messy and random because if I had done this then my best and final artwork could’ve been unearthed sooner and I could have changed my original idea into this better idea. Another way I could improve is if I had practiced more with the skills that I need for my artwork since I know I could improve in my painting and drawing skills. Lastly, the final way that I could improve is my idea since the idea that I have now is not very clear and not many people know what it is.

Although no artists influenced my ideas for my artworks a Japanese Writer had inspired me to create my original piece of art. The Writer's name is Kinoko Nasu who inspired me by a quote he said "An entire sea of water can't sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. Similarity, the negativity of the world can't put you down unless you allow it to get inside of you"

The reason that I chose a dark theme for my artwork is because in my opinion drawing more negative or darker things is easier for me instead of trying to draw brighter things because for dark things you only have to include dark colours while for brighter art you have to include multiple types of colours.

I decided on the Colors by finding color schemes on Pinterest and seeing which one matches with my idea I'm going with which I want for a sunset in the triangle and a normal Blue Sky outside the triangle  which I think that it's a really good combination of colors So I tried to use world of the color scheme into the artwork which was an orange color palette and a  sky blue color palette 

I would improve on the color inside the triangle because the orange is a little too dark and it was really hard to fix it so what I would change would be the sunset color palette. I would also like to change how I drew the clouds because it looks a little too fluffy

My top 5 favorite artwork from the artist has to be “The Water Lily Pond” by Claude Monet, “Winter Landscape with Skaters” by Hendrick Avercamp, “Uphe” by Tomma Abts, “A Bigger Splash” by David Hockney, and “The Shoot” By Claude Monet

I could improve on my work by changing the color palette and made the color more light Because the color is a little bit darker than I thought. I also would like to change the color of the hill I think I used too much dark green and it made the hill look dull and not vivid. Furthermore, I want to change the clouds and the outside of the triangle background colors. The artist that really influenced my idea has to be Claude Monet and David Hockney because of their art styles and also how they use their colors which is pastel yet vivid that's why I am really inspired by this artist. I also like how they paint their background and how they use the paint brush strokes and also the texture of the paper that they use.

When you have completed your voice over make your spirit animal designs, record all your development drawings and tests using a camera, post them into slides and onto the padlet.

When we are still researching, I looked into Pinterest and found many interesting ideas without the artist's name, although we don't know who the artists were, and they all share a bit of similarity with me, they all show an interesting use of texture and color that I have never seen of think of before, and they influenced me a lot. The one which influenced me the most is a picture that a deer has its heart broke and decided the end itself since it was kept in the zoo for its whole life. This picture was a bit sad and violent, but it made me realize many things.

I wanted the audience of my artwork to feel like they are in their own heart, in the small world they made by themself, that they are not in the reality anymore, so they can just relax. I want them to know that there is nothing bad about having a secret, and in fact, it is your world that you created by yourself using your imagination, so just enjoy.

The way that this idea came to me was when during my sketching process and when I was experimenting with different shades and watercolours. Another reason why this idea came to me is from my connection with birds and that birds I thought were very interesting animals. This inspired me to make a bird with watercolor.

During this process, this artwork developed by first researching different types of birds and their meanings. Next I had to analyze about 3 different artists about their different types of art. After we had now started the sketching process, and what we would like to make for our final idea. Next after the sketching process we had to do a voice over explaining all of our ideas so far. Therefore after the voice over we would start the final painting.

Throughout the design process I had learnt many things about water colour and ways to use watercolor. Mainly I learnt more about how to use a brush, and how to use watercolor to create really interesting shades.

The way that I decided on the colours mainly stood on the fact that what was mine since the colours that I wanted to use related to the theme and bird, since it wouldn't make sense if a bird had a dark theme. How I decided on the scale was easy since all I wanted to do was take up most of the space on my watercolor board. How I decided on the type font was easy since all I had decided on was I wanted a type font that could be understood in a  clear and easy to read and understandable way.

If I had the chance to do this all over again then something I would improve is I wish I had done  more varying sketches since all I did were bird drawings and so I wish I could've done more different sketches for perhaps better ideas.

A way that I could have improved my artwork is by making my experiments more varying and different so that I could have created more different things and maybe I could have reached a different conclusion. Another thing that I would definitely want to improve is my skill with the different tools I used like water and I hadn't practiced much with watercolor and so if I could've improved then my artwork would have definitely been better.

What I hope people will discover from my artwork is that nature is beautiful and that what we are doing to nature today is horrible and that we have to fix our problems before it is too late.

Black-Hearted Beauty

          This piece was inspired by the movie Maleficent (2014); where the story was narrated through “villain’s” perspective. It made me realize that not all villains are bad, some are just misunderstood. Although their actions don’t reflect that of a character with good morals, their past almost makes their actions justifiable. The movie Maleficent (2014) shows the trauma the villain had to endure to become the “evil” one; which made me realize that it is not solely just the person, but also the effects of their trauma that makes them who they are. This also applies to real life. I’ve noticed that people learn from experiences. The more trauma they experience, the more negative and wary they are because they don’t want to go through it all over again. But the less trauma they experience, the more optimistic they are because there is less to be wary of. This relates to someone that I personally know. They were disrespectful and unpleasant towards me and it made me feel negatively about myself. It made me think that maybe I was doing something wrong; but when I thought of the trauma they’ve experienced in the past, I realized that if I had gone through the same things, I would be acting the same way--if not worse. I still believe that they are a good person; just misunderstood and in need of a little help. Looking at my art, I want people to see the blurred line between the good and the bad and the unknowable contrast between the beautiful and the evil. I want them to be more empathetic because no one knows the entirety of what someone else has gone through. Although negative actions are not justifiable and should not be condoned, thinking of what the person had previously gone through can help create a better understanding of where their actions are coming from, and the best way to react to them.
