The first nine chapters told so many amazing facts about Dorothy Vaughan. My question for today is what is one amazing fact you learned about Dorothy Vaughan from reading the first nine chapters? I learned she was promoted in January 1951 to head of the west area computers unit. The book stated that many of the women in west computing knew she was the best one for the job even many of the engineers did too and with some time her bosses realized it too. No one was better qualified for the job. This is from Annie

They were always well dressed well spoken patriotic and upright. they knew that they not only represented themselves as individuals but all blacks. this seems like a lot of pressure. why do you think these black computers had so much pressure on them?

In chapter 12 when Katherine was chosen to work with the other people it said, "before she could say hi the man got up and left" she did not know why. I think it was because she was a black woman and he was a white man, but it said "after he found out that she was a fellow transplant from West Virginia they became close friends." So that is why you should never judge some by their looks

They were the experts. They checked each other's work and put red dots on the data sheets when they found errors. There were very, very few red dots."

How does reading this part make you feel? Why?

I think there was somebody in the crash. It is very hard to make a airplane without anybody in it. Well the plane crash sounds bad so sadly I think it would be rare for the human in the plane to survive. :( What do you think. I would love to hear your guys thoughts. :)

In chapter 14 it said "it did not matter that she was black and he was white, or that she was a woman and her was a man, or that she was from the South and he was from the North. What mattered was that they both loved math and both loved planes." And so when people treat other people rudely because they are a different gender or skin color it really dose not matter. And this part of the story made me feel happy cause for once it did not matter. How did it make you feel? This is from Allayna.
