 His two most famous works are: "The Garden of Earthly Delights" and "The Temptation of St. Anthony."
Why do people think he is important: modern art historians see Bosch as an important precursor to the surrealist imagery popular in the early twentieth century. His paintings were popular among wealthy and noble patrons in the Netherlands, Austria, and Spain, and he has had many imitators up to the present day.
Little is known about the life of the great Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch
(the exact date of his death is unknown, but a funeral mass was held for him on August 9).
Born: 1450's in Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
Died: 9th of August 1516's in the same place.
Periods: Northern Renaissance, Renaissance, Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting, Gothic art, Early Netherlandish painting.
