The Calling card is the equivalent to a modern day business card. It was very common for people to visit eachothers houses and if they were not home the person would leave their card to say that they were there. It was proper etiquette to leave and accept a calling card. The victorian calling cards were large and could be extremly ornate with names usually printed instead of handwritten. The servants saw every aspect of your life. They knew who came and went, how much money you were spending, what you ate, took care of everything around the house, and knew all your secrets. A decent amount of plays were comedies. The plays were designed to create laughter for the audiences.
In the 19th century, the construction of neigborhoold theatres increased throughout the city. Theatre was not restircted to certain classes of society. The auditoriam was divided into boxes, pit and gallery. Seperate entrances were created for each of the sections so that box holders would not have to make contact with the lower class customers. As wealth among the middle class began to grow the attendance in the theatres increased. This helped the economy because it created higher profits.

Sets are becoming very large and detailed. It is common to have multi dimensional sets that can carry out many different scenes. Special effects have also improved greatly. Some common ones are flashing lights and dramatic sound cues. As technology always seems to get more innovative I am sure there are no limits to what theatre can be in a couple decades.
Modern theatres are very large and could hold many people. There are many types of plays nowadays including musicals, comedies, operas, and dramas. In modern theatre one of the most popular types of plays are musicals. The 20th century was known as the golden age for broadway. The education for girls and men were not the same. Girls would have a private tutor for music, language, and simple household mathematics and would never attend a real university.
