As part of owl's daily routines they do preen, stretch, yawn and comb their heads with their claws. They then clean their nails by nibbling them with their beaks.Owls can be very expressive for example when they are curious about something they might turn their head to show confusion.
If a owl becomes scared/ alarmed it will become slim as it tightens the feathers to the body and will stand straight up. However little owls will bob their body's up and down when they are alarmed by something.
When defending either itself or young the own will ruffle their feathers to increase their size to intimidate the "threat".

Owls are carnivores , which means their mainly eat meat and things like that .Their diet includes: Invertebrates (bugs), fish, reptiles, amphibians , fish and small mammals.
Most species have a preferred prey they like the best but if they need to eat they will eat any of the listed above in order to eat a meal.
Owls tend to hunt away from where they roost.Owls have very good senses which help them hunt for example some owls can hunt in the dark as they have really good night vision.
Owls stunt their prey as they have silent flight, this means they can take their prey by surprise killing them instantly. Most of the time if its a small prey its usually eaten immediately but if its big the owl will carry it with its talons back to their nest where they could feed young.

Most owls like to live in places like dense forests with plenty of trees so they can perch in the trees to look for prey. The owls can also build nests high up in the trees away from predators. Owls normally locate their nests near fields or meadows so that they can go hunting for small mammals.

Most owls can breed from the age of three years old. When the owls have met a mate they tend to stay together for life (monogamous). Breeding in owls usually takes place in winter, the female will incubate the eggs until they hatch. Then both parents take turns in feeding the young, they chicks them start to wonder around at 3-4 weeks old but by 4-5 months old they will start to be more independent.
