One of them was a Bar Mitzvah. One of my friends was throwing a big party and he was going to invite almost all of the grade. I received the invite in the mail and it was so pretty so I was very excited to go. A lot of people in the grade were also very excited and talked about the Bar Mitzvah and things like who got invited and who was going. To prepare for the coming of age event, my friends and I were deciding what dress to wear and what nail color, size, and shape we should get. Overall, it was a very joyful experience to be part of since I’ve never been to a Bar Mitzvah and that would've been my first one. Too bad covid had to come and shut it down. Another thing along with the many other occasions that were also canceled due to covid was the talent show. As a silly joke, me and two of my friends were going to be a part of a talent show by performing a three to four minute dance routine. While the three of us were practicing, another friend was taking care of the music and occasionally a few people would stop by. We auditioned and got in, because the director of the talent show loved our ideas. Harmless jokes were being made twenty-four-seven about the virus and god forbid if someone sneezes or coughs, so many stares and jokes would be thrown their way. I only started taking this seriously when my family and I went to go watch Hamilton and visited the Brickell Town Center, which is where my mom received an alert about the first covid case in broward county. After that alert, we went to go eat dinner and were completely paranoid about anyone who came up to talk to us! Something else that is quite funny to me is the fact that I thought that I would stay out of school for only two weeks and this virus outbreak would be resolved. Even my teacher didn’t believe it. This is mostly due to the fact that this virus was said to have originated in that part of the world, and they are being blamed for our country's mistakes and irresponsibility. I have seen many sad examples of people harming Asians for no reason whatsoever, they could be coming home from work, taking their daily walk, or driving in their car, someone always has to come up and try to make them feel less than what they are, which is a human being. Everything that is shown across the internet of them being harassed is very disappointing and should be unacceptable. Unfortunately, we live in a country full of hatred because it was built off of hatred. Older generations pass these disgusting, spiteful thoughts down to their children and younger generations. Fortunately, most of my generation, (which is Gen Z), known right from wrong. I was always told to be grateful for what I have in life, and I was way before Covid-19 was a thing, but you never really grasp how lucky you are until you compare it to other people. During this outbreak many people are alone, unemployed. homeless, hungry, and have no place to go except for food and homeless shelters. Although most of the world is in a dark place right now due to this virus, I know I can be unhappy and disappointed, which I am, but I still have food, a shelter, and a loving, caring family, which is more than anyone can ask for and way more than so many other people in the United States. I realized how important quality family time is, which is something that I didn’t have on school days before covid since I was gone for seven hours of the day. During covid I am able to hang out with my family way more and do many great activities with them, which is very fun. I also realized that I need to pay attention to my surroundings, because you never know when’s the last time you’re going to step into a certain place. In December of 2019 my family and I were meeting up with our old neighbors to watch Jumanji: The Next Level. I was not able to go anywhere, which made this seem like an even worse time since people were not coming to my house and regularly visiting like usual and I could not leave my house and interact with my family. It’s a good thing I took the vaccine, because the fear that I had that related to getting very sick from this illness has subsided a bit, and I’m able to go outside more and visit my family.”
