He was diagnosed with high functioning autism in sophomore year. He used to struggle a lot when it came to expressing himself, making friends, and more. He was diagnosed with ADHD in 5th grade, but we knew that wasn't the full diagnosis. Even after learning that he had autism, there are still many things that I don't understand about him. Even though this project is focused on younger children, many of the things that I learned here apply to him now. I think that many of the symptoms he displayed when he was younger were tied to autism and we just wrote off the symptoms to him growing up. It is nice to see kids accepting their autism and creating a space for other autistic children to feel safe. I also thought it was interesting that they don't know how you get autism.
