The Healing Power of Music

Music has the power to evoke a wide range of emotions, offering listeners moments of reflection, peace, or inspiration. For example, the song "Great Mother" by Haevn creates a profound sense of calm and introspection through its soothing melodies and reflective lyrics. From the very first notes, the soft piano and mellow vocals establish a tranquil atmosphere, making listeners feel as though they are floating through peaceful memories. Moreover, as the song progresses, the blend of orchestral sounds and ambient beats stirs gentle emotions, bringing about feelings of nostalgia and quiet hope. Personally, this song helps me reconnect with past experiences and, at the same time, encourages me to approach life’s uncertainties with optimism. In addition, the seamless combination of instruments and heartfelt lyrics provides a meditative experience, making "Great Mother" an ideal song for finding comfort or clarity. All in all, this song exemplifies how music can uplift listeners and offer emotional escape, leaving them both reflective and hopeful.

Sometimes songs evoke your inner feelings and give you an unforgettable experience. For Example, Purple Rain by Prince. This song is probably Prince's most known song and a huge cult of the history of music. Its atmosphere give you complex feelings, like I said, gives you hope, makes you chill, gives you a deep sorrow and support this explosion of emotions not only with the instrumental parts but also Prince's extraordinary vocals. Maybe for the first time you might be find this song just "melancholic" but Purple Rain is much more than this. This is the closing track of the same titled album. Prince combines every kind of feeling in this closing part, and every second of this song covers with raw power of emotions. At the end of the song, Prince just use a violin and through this violin he gives you every deep feeling that you might be feel. And, overall, he give us a lesson how an album closing must be and how a musician gives you every feeling within 8 minutes. Rest in Peace Prince, one of the biggest geniuses in the whole history of music.

https://open.spotify.com/track/1uvyZBs4IZYRebHIB1747m?si=QO6OR-TuT7-r4mOEgo7qGQ

The song Mission to Mars - Megadeth is a song that I've come across after a long time since I discovered the group Megadeth. Nevertheless, it is the song I have found out recently during my peak Megadeth age; it has managed to become top music that make me dance and check its lyrics deeply. Moreover, I have even learnt how to play it on electro guitar, so I am a bit sick of this song. I relate its lyrics with myself because I really like stargazing, and this song is about the Mars. If you listen to it with your headsets and full volume, you will probably headbang or beat out with your feet too. I do not know if it is about its rythm, notes, instruments or just lyrics but I do not care I just cannot stay still while listening it. Especially, its bass guitar lines can be felt. Actually, I cannot feel bass lines in some songs but I can feel it strongly in this song. Those bass lines fills me with energy in starting and throws me to the Mars immidately when lyrics come out. Finally, this song makes me feel everything in it such as most simply: Bass lines, and fills me with an energy explosion.

Kimse Bilmez by Mehmet Güreli is my favorite song. It affects me deeply. Actually Mehmet Güreli is not an artist, songwriter that I listen to very often. However; this song is a masterpiece. Whenever I listen to this song, I feel as if I go to glommy life of İstanbul. I always imagine that I am playing the guitar in a small cafe next to the Galata Tower on a rainy and cloudy day. Moreover, it makes me feel like I'm alone in a crowd. Generally, I listen this song at night and do overthink. I think about the past and unforgettable memories. Altough this song feels sad, I feel like it's signaling me to start a new adventure. When I focus on its melody, sometimes I want to get lost in Istanbul. I want to see the remote corners that no one has discovered. I want to tell my story to places where no one knows, and finally, I want to get on the ferry and feel the wind touching my skin, in harmony with the smell of the sea. To sum up, I feel all the sad and complicated emotions at the same time.

https://youtu.be/omkgfcYaNlM?si=Bdj_aWH3Xgth3ufQ

We can all agree that true music touches the soul. Every person has their own backgrounds and personalities so everyone has their own taste of music. Personally, I like songs that tells us the things we feel. In this song, we see the the effects of being self centered. The "candle queen" in the song is someone who uses people for her own selfish intents. However, of course she doesn't get away with it. Her own selfishness causes her collapse and tells us once again that we can't be selfish all the time, for it'll just cause our fall. We can also say that what kind of childhood we had can have a great impact on our adulthood. The "candle queen" in the song was used to using people as ladder rungs and getting what she wants all the time. We see a lot of them in our lives actually. There's always a "candle queen" who wants all the attention on them. They think that the world revolves around them even though all they do in this world is to consume and hate. We can't do something about that kind of people since they were raised this way. However, we can teach the next generation to be humble and not look down at anyone. After all, selfishness only leads to isolation.

Music is such a strong thing that it can change our emotions and whole mood. It can make us feel several emotions sadness, love, nostalgia and so on. The songs that people are affected changes from person to person. For me, this song "Ben Her Zaman Sana Aşıktım" by Kalben is the most affective one. It makes me feel nearly every emotion; love, happiness and in some parts sorrow. Thats why I love this song so much, it makes me think about life, childhood and the person that I'm in love with. When she says "Hayat üç perdelik tatsız bir kabare, biz seninle çocuk kalalım mı habire?" I really feel the thing that she wants to make the listener feel. I really want to stay in childhood with that one person. Even though we can't do that physically I hope our souls stay as pure and joyful as a child. Also, her voice is so affective I think. She uses her voice so nicely. All in all this is my favorite of all the songs with It's every detail and the feelings that It makes me feel.

But addition to that I believe, how we feel and our surroundings can also change our perception of the songs we listen to. For instance “la vuelta al mundo” is a Spanish song which in a normal setting I wouldn’t have discovered, but my online friend introduced me to it. His first language was Spanish and use to sing songs to us, ever since then the song la vuelta al mundo has a special place in my heart. Hearing for the first time from my friend i really liked the song and was kind of disappointed when i listened it from the original band. Nevertheless, I still love the song and the cozy memories it reminds me of… After all, music is a great tool for our brain to make connections with the memories and feelings we experience and I’m glad it is so.

Music is believed to be healing effect on people for several reasons. For instance, the song “Cardigan” by Taylor Swift awakes painful feelings like love issues at first. I felt same things like other people but after a while, my feelings about this song changed. I feel that I have strong will as if I manage to things which I felt while I was listening. At the beginning of the song, you can feel autumn vibes from notes. Not just from notes, you can also feel autumn atmosphere from name of the song. Moreover, tone of her voice is so comfortable. In my opinion, definition of her voice is a painkiller. The song can make somebody feel hopeful. The melody provides sensation of promising starting, but it may change from person to person. In conclusion, this song can help to feel hopeful about future.

For example, gnossienne no.1 by Erik Satie is the best example of this type music for me. When you listen this song you might think that there is a problem in array of notes of piano although this problem makes the song better. To some people, most of the musics take anyone to the past but when i listen to this song i feel as if i am in the future where i want to be. And also it opens my mind before i do something important to prepare my mind. In brief; if you want to concentrate on something, relaxing yourself after a long day, clearing your mind you can listen the no lyrics songs.

Some little things can make us so happy that nothing money can buy make us the same. For me its a song called,"Kaybediyorum Yeniden" by Yaşlı Amca. Every time I hear or sing this song, my heartbeat increases and all of my stress just flows away. This is the song I play before performing on stage. This is the song that I danced with my girlfriend on our first date. This is the song I play when I need to escape something. This is the song makes me happy. Remembrance by Balmorhea. I feel like I am in another universe. I feel not only the paradise but also feel the hell. When I first listened this music, I felt something that I don’t know. I felt the emptiness inside me, but surprisingly I felt peace at the same time. If I listen to this music when I encounter something good, this song evokes something good. On the other hand , if I listen to this song when I encounter something devastating, my life stops until the song finishes. I listened to it when I experienced the earthquake. I felt like living in the hell. Then, I listen to it again when I felt happiness. This song is my lost part , and I sense my completion. All in all, the feeling of a music can change depend on person to person or situation to situation. I can easily understand it from the comment of this song.

The Lonliness Between The Infinite

"Ao no sumika" seems like it's about the thrill of summer life in the first look. This idea is supported by the fast melodies it uses. Although when you take a closer look and analyze it, you see the hidden sorrow behind the lyrics. With lines like "your silence, becomes inaudible" it really explains how he doesn't realise what his partner goes through. In the original japanese, it uses the word "koi" which specifically means romantic love which I find interesting since it makes the lyrics feel like a love letter. With it's catchy tune and rather soft tone, it manages to give the feeling that this is actually a far away memory. It gives me a feeling of "fleeting freedom" like I'm soaring through the skies, about to end my journey. Which makes it perfect for listening to when walking home. In the end, "ao no sumika" gives me many feelings and I learn something new about the story it tries to tell me each time I listen to it.

For instance, for me it is “Bir Zamanlar Deli Gönlüm” by Sezen Aksu. This song makes me feel safe and positive because it is mention about break up, but the writer still respect to her ex love. In addition the writer not only respect to her ex, but also still in love with him. However, some people might find this lyrics absurd because it basically says come as you are. Whether you want this relationship or not, just come back to me it says. So, they can think that this lyrics are miserable. While some people may think like that, for me this song reminds me love, passion, respect and yearning. Also, I feel safe when I listen to this song. To sum up, every person’s feelings and ideas vary with each other.

Yes there are so many great examples of "melancholic music" but no one of them can give you a strong nihilism and true melancholia as How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead. When I listen to this song I feel I'm out of the Earth, the universe because this song talk about "nothing" and According to me feeling nothing is the most melancholic feeling to a human being because we want to exist, we want to take a breath, want to smell. But If you want to exist anymore it becomes a wish instead of a fear, and How to Disappear Completely is totally about this "wish". Also the instrumental parts of this song support this "wish" and carrie this song a spiritual level more than a ordinary song. Within the song, you feel exhausted, downed, depressed, upset, sometimes freaky and outside the world simultaneously. Overall, as we think all of these elements we clearly understand why Radiohead is the best band of all times because no one buy Radiohead can give you the raw depression and nihilism with a mesmerizing way. Radiohead is out of the boundaries because Radiohead createa boundaries, see you.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2rtGaCAeYtmcIvuZsvgTf6?si=3L272gLbQqOODRnCu7G1Gw

Music can give us the necessary push to overcome the challenges we come across in life. For me, one of the songs that does it the best is Decadence by Disturbed. It has been with me through my entire childhood, and even nowadays I listen to it often. For the most of my time listening to Decadence, I didn't even know the lyrics! I just enjoyed the music, and it made me feel motivated. Because of a particularly difficult period in my life, I found myself looking back into my past and decided to listen to Decadence one more time. This time, I could actually understand what it was saying! Even though the lyrics were kind of depressing, it still made me feel better than I was feeling before. Thanks to Decadence, I had an easier time getting through hardships, and I could think about the good memories it gave me to find the strength I need. In the end, I think this song is a good example of how even depressing music can be motivating in the right circumstances.
