The idea that society creates the meaning behind the products was very interesting to me. I'm very glad and proud that my 14 year old daughter is one who is so far resisting the urge to wear makeup and the latest fashions, and has found a group of girlfriends who share this resistance. However, I'm sure that they would not be accepted by other peer groups at their school because of this. But by simply dismissing this sexualisation with laughter,  are sections of society trivialising the subject? I have a 14 year old daughter, and I have always been mindful to use these messages as teaching moments. I teach her that although sexual images and messages are prevalent, she doesn't have to use those messages to define herself, and can choose her own path when it comes to how she defines her own body and sexuality. What interests me about the moral panic surrounding children (an especially young girls) and their sexualisation is the fact that there is an argument that this moral panic is unwarranted. Some points of view maintain that children are innocent, and unaware of the controversy surrounding the subject.
