To begin, this question is challenging but at the same time it is a very important question to consider in someone's life. In my opinion, there is many ways someone can avoid being limited by their surroundings. For instance, I consider what I can tolerate and accept and what makes me feel uncomfortable or stressed. Those feelings help me identify what my limits are. Furthermore, I believe considering your past and your future might help you avoid being limited by your surroundings. Don't let the past stop you from creating the future because of the surrounding. Additional to that, I am the type of person who always likes to offer help even though I don't have time for that or if that is going to forbidden me from practicing other things. So I think in order to avoid being limited by my surroundings, I need to start learning on when and how to say no. Another example might be avoiding being limited by your surrounding at work. You can do that by assessing your personal boundaries first and keeping your relationships professional. (Lara Abdelahad)

If I were working in a cubicle, I believe it would be important for me to get up and take some breaks from my desk to remind myself that this space does not trap and confine me and that it is just my working space. The limited space is just my working zone, and it does not have a hold on the boundless thoughts and ideas my mind can carry. It is important to remind yourself that there is so much in your life that is outside of your work cubicle. This can range from what you do in your community, what you do with friends or family, and what you do for yourself and hobbies. There are so many people that you can connect with in and out of your workplace! Whether you do things with friends or on your own, there are so many things that you can do in your daily life that go to show who you are outside of work. (Rida Sheikh)

Although where you work is a big part of your time and personal identity, it does not comprise all of it. Work isn't everything for most people, and it shouldn't be. If you work in a cubicle, or if your work life is not very exciting, there are plenty of opportunities within your community to get involved in more than just work. Join a sports club, participate in activities with people that practice the same religion, start a book club, etc. Find people with similar interests as you so you aren't limited by your surroundings. If you can't find anyone in the area, plenty of people make friends online! A lot of people end up not doing what they really want to do because they didn't have the money, experience, etc. for achieve that. Try to incorporate what you really want into what personal time you have to make up for that (If you want to be a chef, try to cook a lot at home. If you want to be a singer, sing as much as you can). (Emma Stolinas)

To prevent the things around you from defining your life, you first need to decide what DOES define your life. Whether it's something like hanging out with your friends or reading or doing things with your family, you have to pick things that you feel are fundamental to your happiness and make them into "musts" and you try your best to do them, no matter what. On a more personal note, I personally believe that the U.S. has a problem with this more than some other countries, that businesses are allowed to take too much from their employees for too little in return. Obviously everybody must work, but a line needs to be drawn between living to work and working to live. (Andrew Lucas)

To prevent your surroundings from defining the limits and bounds in your life you must absolutely do something you love. If you don't do something you love, you will dread working all the time which can lead to high stress and just a boring life. Doing something you enjoy and love will always leave you open to new things and gives motivation to wake up everyday and go to work. Honestly working in a cubicle isn't inevitable for some people. Some people just don't want to try which leaves them to no other option other than working in a cubicle.( Jaden Crudup)

This question is so much more difficult to answer with the current pandemic as our surroundings are physically, emotionally and socially limiting us at least for the time being. Working from home for the first time in my adult life has been life-changing both good and bad. I constantly am questioning my worth as an instructor or educator teaching out of my home instead of the classroom. I don't want the physical barriers that prevent me from physically being in the same space as my students prevent me from being a good teacher. (Tracey Carbonetto)

If I was to be working in a cubicle I would surround myself with things that make me comfortable but at the same time aren't distracting. Work should be comfortable but its also a place to work, there shouldn't be things around that distract me. Also, I would probably take breaks here and there, get up and move so that I'm not sitting in the same spot all day and I don't feel as if my life is just me sitting in a cubicle the whole time. It is important to understand that the cubicle and where you work does not define your life and that that space is just your working zone. It shouldn't trap your mind in any way because there are many ways and people to connect with and interact with. (Kathrynn Weller)

I wouldn’t want to feel bored or uninspired in there because it would most likely reflect on how I act. I would also surround myself with things that make me happy. Then I would probably get a chair that requires me to move around or a desk that requires me to stand up so I’m not sitting for 8 hours straight. Then for my lunch I would pack something delicious from home so that I can enjoy myself. I just wouldn’t want to be bound to that boring work life so I would want to make my surroundings lively. As small as it seems but your happiness-mental health is always priority. why do something for the rest of your life that makes you feel obligated to be doing it instead of having fun and doing the most because it makes you happy. it’s always about having time and making time as well not just for working.
