In the realistic fiction novel, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, August is the main character. August has a face deformity, but that doesn't stop him from being an intelligent and dependable friend. for example in the novel it says, " he's really smart. i thought he'd be behind everyone because he hadn't gone to school before. but in most things he's way ahead of me." (R.J. Palacio 142). also, august is a dependable friend. in addition, it says " he laughs at all my jokes.and i kind of feel like i can tell august anything" (R.J. Palacio 143). im and jack get along so well because Auggie gives of this vibe that give jack a feeling that he can tell him anything. In addition, Jack is august best friend and one of the protagonist of the story. He is a loyal friend and benevolent to Auggie. For example, in the story Jack stands up for Auggie when Julian was calling Auggie, "freak". "That's when I punched him. Right in the mouth." (R.J. Palacio 154). Jack is a loyal friend to Auggie, even when they weren't talking to each other, Jack still defended Auggie. also, jack is very benevolent. in addition in the story it says "but if a little kid like jamie, who's usually a nice enough kid, can be that mean, then a kid like august doesn't stand a chance in middle school"( R.J. Palacio 141) Jack offered to help give Auggie a tour around the school because, he pitied Auggie, thinking that he would probably not survive Beecher prep.. In the realistic novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio two character traits that describe Auggie are, intelligent and dependable. Two character traits that describe Jack are , loyal and benevolent.

POINT OF VIEW

In the realistic fiction novel, Wonder by R.J. . The novel Wonder is in 1st point of view. First point of view is when a character from the story narrates the novel. You know when a character is narrating the story when he/she uses words like " I thought ,we , this was". The character expresses their thoughts and feeling while narrating the story. This helps me understand the story better, because i get to know what they are thinking during a conflict. Who they would blame, which makes me think deeper into the story. When the novel is in first point of view, the character narrating the story expresses their opinions on the actions other characters make and their decisions . Which makes me wonder if they are doing the right thing. And if their feelings about their decisions are going to effect the conflict of the story.

THEME

In the realistic fiction novel, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio , the theme of the story is "what goes around comes around." The theme "what goes around comes around", means whatever you do that really stands out, good or bad, to someone or something else will always come back to you. If you do something good to someone else, something good will happen to you. There are many examples, of "what goes around comes around" in the novel. But this one really stands out. After all the bullying Auggie endured, when a guy named Eddie follows him and Jack into the woods, and starts bullying them. Then, some surprising kids come to the rescue, and stand up to the bully. ""Yo, dude"said a new voice behind us. "What's up man" eddie spun around and pointed his flashlight toward the voice. For a second , I couldn't believe who it was. " leave them alone dude" said . . ."(R.J. Palacio 367). In the text it states when Auggie and Jack are getting bullied by Eddie, Amos, Henry and Miles come to the rescue. Henry and miles were mean to Auggie and Jack in the beginning of the school year, and now they are coming to defend them from the bully. There are many themes to the novel wonder but, the theme " what goes around comes around" give auggie a happy ending.

PLOT LINE

In the realistic fiction novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, the plot line of the story is like a roller coaster. Their are a lot of conflicts during the story, but there is one main conflict that gives the story a big shift. In the beginning, the exposition, mom and dad want to send Auggie to Beecher prep. But, they are afraid that he will get bullied because of his deformed face. In the rising action, Charlotte, Jack, and Julian show August around Beecher prep. For the first time. then when it came to the first day of school, Auggie experienced what real life is. That not everyone in the whole entire world is going to be nice to him even with his face deformity. During lunch, a girl named Summer came over and became Auggie's first friend at Beecher prep. During Halloween August supposedly friend, Jack said some mean things about Auggie. After that, Auggie just ignored Jack, Jack didn't even know what he did wrong. But when he figured out what he did wrong he felt bad and defended Auggie when Julian called him a "freak". When Julian called August a "freak" Jack punched him in the face, knocking out Julian's baby tooth. After that August realized that Jack really was a true friend. Towards the end of the year auggie and his friends go on a nature retreat. Julian the bully does not go on the trip, which makes a big effect on the climax. during the climax auggie and jack, go into the woods to go to the bathroom. some 8th graders, named eddie and his friends follow them into the woods to make fun of august face. then eddie and his friends start making rude comments about auggie's face , eventually threatening them. but, then amos, henry, and miles show up defending august. they saw august and jack going into the woods, and saw eddie and his friends follow them. they thought that they looked dangerous so they followed them to make sure they were ok. henry and miles were julians friend in the beginning' but now they are like august "emperors guard". after the big fight, there was a "big shift in the cosmos" . auggie earned the reputation, not for his appearance, but for his bravery. then, everyone started to be nicer to auggie and ignoring his appearance. he gains new friends including Henry, Miles, and Amos. Julian is ignored now. in the end, august graduates fifth grade. at the graduation august is awarded the Henry Ward Beecher Award. "he's the greatest," he finally continued, "whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of his own' . . . to the student whose quiet strength has carried up the most hearts" (R.J. Palacio 304) after that, auggie walks home surrounded by his family, and friends.

BOOK RATING

The realistic fiction novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, this book deserves a 100 out of five, but since we have to choose 1-5, it deserves a 5. Why? This book is a genuine story of a boy named Auggie, and our mistakes. Our mistake is that we bully people who are "extraordinary" and we can't help it. We can't recognize greatness. This little boy Auggie almost died because a bully named Eddie had to make fun of him because of his "face deformity". It is a very emotional story, and really gives us a feel, that words hurt. they leave scars that cannot be hidden. August didn't do anything to deserve anything to deserve all the bullying, and appearance, yet we are the ones who look normal when we make more mistakes than Auggie ever could make. " You can't fit in when you were born to stand out". Some people in the world are a truly a wonderful miracle. This book teaches us to ,love, to feel hurt, to be kinder than necessary, and to recognize true greatness with the true friends in life. August may say otherwise, but I really do think he is extraordinary. This book, was made with wonder, love, and a little boy named "Auggie".
