Fox News: America leads the discussion in the WHO

In accordance with America’s disproportionately high monetary contribution to the United Nations, its ambassador to the WHO meeting on combating disease has also served to carry the UN forwards in speech as well. During the discussion the USA ambassador was one of the few to continuously contribute to the WHO discussion and proposed more motions than any other ambassador present. The ambassador also made a number of significant outreaches to other countries present, and announced their intention to begin a research project with Canada, China, France, and Venezuela to combat disease. They commonly broke what would otherwise be an uncomfortable and unproductive silence at what is claimed to be the most significant platform for international collaboration in the world. This was in stark contrast to a number of other countries such as Turkey and Mexico, which made few substantial contributions in comparison.

Cory Hunter

Venezuela's school enrollment has dropped due to the dangers associated with attendance. In addition to the lack of teachers due to low pay, the potential threats of violence the children receive has resulted in little to no school attendance. Up at the podium, Russia has called for universal education and Canada has pushed for equal education for all. Canada and Russia decide to become allies in supporting Venezuela's fight for education. Education in Venezuela has become a number one priority as schools have cut back on meals due to food shortages. Education will result in more jobs which will allow for more people to be able to afford food.

Olivia Gemmiti

Russia is not holding back when it comes to dominating the conference. Russia's delegate, Daniel Nicholson Gardner, says the federation of Russia would like to achieve a sustainable program for all countries with lacking education. He expresses his concern for the lack of discussion of infrastructure being held in the conference room and is becoming frustrated with countries like Rwanda who seem to be focused merely on funds, as it interferes with their progress. Rwanda's delegate, Natalie Simpson, says that their main goal was to gain funds for infrastructure, and they have received aid from China and Colombia. Simpson expresses her distaste for Russia, who has used the conference to be disrespectful to other countries through the use of insults. Stay tuned to find interviews with the respective delegates on their experiences so far.

Olivia Gemmiti

BBC: Brief spat between USA and India on proposed resolution to combat disease ends with consensus

During WHO discussions on combating tropical diseases, tensions rose as the Indian ambassador showed reluctance to agree to the proposed resolution as he disagreed with the heavy emphasis placed on vector control, believing that greater emphasis should be placed on sanitation. The American ambassador shot back and claimed that India was not contributing enough to the fight against disease. The Indian ambassador then stated that given their economic struggles, they cannot grant funding to a programme that provides few tangible benefits for them. The Canadian ambassador responded that sanitation won’t combat insect-borne diseases such as the Zika virus.

Following further discussions in which the American ambassador acknowledged that not all measures in the proposition will benefit each and every country, but stated that all countries still have an obligation to contribute, India conceded and agreed to sign the resolution.

As a heavily populated country with a tropical climate, India holds a significant role in the discussions proceeding at the WHO, that are in large part focused on neglected tropical diseases such as the infamous Zika virus. Because of this they are one of the greater voices in the ongoing WHO discussions.

Cory Hunter

Fox News: Morocco and Colombia shock WHO through advocating marijuana legalization as a vehicle for combating hunger

Discussions at the United Nations took a surprising turn as Morocco advocated marijuana legalization as a vehicle for reducing hunger via general economic enrichment. This suggestion was met with shock by most of the other members present, and the American ambassador implored Morocco to consider the well being of their citizens. Despite the absurdity of this suggestion and its diversion from the topic at hand, Colombia took it a step further and went as far as to say that marijuana itself can be used as a food source.

When questioned further on the subject by our reporters the Colombian ambassador fumbled to justify these comments, only being able to describe “hemp products” such as hemp-infused bread being a potential new source of food. While hemp seeds can be used as a source of food, they are mainly used to enhance flavour and their merit as a food source in their own right is questionable.

Cory Hunter

It finally begins!

In the General Assembly committee, Morocco mentions that in Eastern hemisphere is not the only side with Gender Equality issues. They turned to the Western Hemisphere, especially to the United States, claiming that there is a problem of Gender Equality there. They dragged President-elect Donald J. Trump into the discussion, saying that Morocco and Russia should not be looked as "the bad ones," when "U.S.A., the most powerful country in the world, elected a man who sexually assaulted women and bragged about it."

However, U.S.A. fires back. They responded by reminding their fellow delegates that Hilary Clinton "was the popular vote and that most of the country's people do not believe in Donald Trump's views. In addition, their "constitutional laws have a limit to personal laws."

Keilah Q.

Canada and the UK agree that human rights should be universal, while Russia turns to the US to make remarks regarding their recent president elect, Donald Trump. The US highlights the popular vote chose Hilary Clinton, showing that the majority of their country does not support Trump's ideals. Russia claims that the western countries are forcing their standards on eastern countries, which they did not appreciate.
