  • This shows that John Proctor is attempting to amend his relationship with Elizabeth as he promises to buy George Jacob’s heifer which presumably is said to please Elizabeth. Elizabeth responds with aye but after questioning John’s whereabouts. John asks Elizabeth to forgive him as he does so much to fix this relationship, which indirectly is an action that revealed the tension between the marriage of John and Elizabeth Proctor
