When reading The Great Gatsby, I relished that that Fitzgerald goes into a lot of detail in his writing. He tries to build a scene with his writing. Fitzgerald does this by going into detail about the area and feelings and thoughts about the characters. For example Nick talks about Daisy and Jordan got up, both of their white dresses were rippling and fluttering in the wind. When a breeze came into the Buchanan Mansion, he says the curtains flutter in the wind like pale flags.

He is said to be a tall, athletic man with an intimidating look. He played football in highschool and was seen as “perfect student”. Nick said “Two shining arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face and gave him the appereande of always leaning aggressively forward.”(F.Scott Fitzgerald). This quote shows us that Tom is a threatening looking man, his eyes bring in your attention and makes him look threatening. His voice described by nick “His speaking voice, a gruff husky tenor, added to the impression of fractiousness he conveyed.”(F.Scott Fitzgerald). Nick felt he had to comment on toms voice because it is another startling trait of his that makes him more scary. Toms physical and personality are kind of similar, Tom is a self centered person who tries to live in the past. He peaked in highschool when he played football and was popular. Now everything is boring to him and won’t be as good as the old days.

Gold, green, and red were the colors that I noticed. Gold was used to describe wealth, green signifies hope, and red associating anger and hate, which is what we saw with Tom

Tom tries too hard to relive his days in the past, he needs to start living in the future. All of these places represent others social status and wealth, East egg is where Tom and Daisy live , this represents people with old money, such as inheritance or always being rich. West egg is where Gatsby’s house is, it represents people with new money who weren’t always rich growing up. Valley of Ashes is completely opposite to the other locations, this place is a depressing industrial area which is always covered in smog, dirt, and smoke. Everyone who lives in this area is extremely poor, the other characters only pass through it because of the trains that go through there and visiting George and Myrtle. New York City is the same as the City of Ashes, always has a dirty and depressing atmosphere. He would always throw these huge parties that everyone would have fun. Due to his big house, cars, pools, and the music help bring all these guests in. His house and his music have to be the biggest influence onto why he has so many guests, but I don’t understand why only some people got invitations, while most people at his parties are strangers. Another great part was how Nick and Gatsby were talking and nick didn’t even know that he was Gatsby. This shows that Gatsby isn’t like Tom and is much more humble. I am still curious as to why Gatsby doesn’t participate in his own parties. Some people, like myself, think that he is lying on a number of things. Once I found that one of his friends is Mr Wolfsheim it made me worry. He is a gambler and his most distinguished role was when he “Fixed the World Series.” Which means that he rigged the games, in order that they could win in an unfair way. It made me think about why Gatsby would be friends with someone like that.

Now I assume this means that Gatsby has him around for his own personal gain. This could also imply that Gatsby participates in illegal acts or businesses.Is this how he got his wealth? I think it is, however there is not enough sufficient proof to assume that.

This information really contradicts what Gatsby is saying about himself. Things people always question about Gatsby is if he really went to oxford. Hes said things like “educated at Oxford” or that he “came into a good deal of money.” He attempts to label himself as a rich, well educated person. But the new statistics provided does prove otherwise.

There is still physical proof though from when he was in the war and when he went to Oxford. For a instance he shows a medal from his time as a soldier and an image of him at Oxford. So he probably is attempting to cover something and is in most cases telling the truth.

He wasn't born with a rich family and actually was born with a family of farmers. As a child we learn that, unlike his parents, he doesn’t have a good work ethic and is lazy when it comes to hard labor. Daisy does love him though, Her relationship with Tom is much more complicated than her and Gatsby. She doesn't love Tom at all anymore. She even goes to say she doesn't like to say her daughter looks like Tom to try to distance her daughter from him. “She doesn’t look like her father. She looks like me.”(Fitzgerald). Even though she hates him now, she stays with him for unknown reasons, probably to protect his daughter or his wealth. Tom doesn’t love Daisy, He just uses her as someone he can release his anger on. Nick doesn’t love anyone romantically accept maybe Jordan. He does love Daisy as his cousin. We can tell he does because he gives her advice and love throughout the story.
Fitzgerald is saying that love is complicated and it’s difficult to have a good relationship. No one in the book has a functional relationship and everyone has some type of drama involving relationships. Many decisions made by the characters are influenced love or hatred for others. It's a mystery type of movie about a rich family that has this kind of elegance, same as Gatsby. When the grandfather dies the whole family starts to fight over his inheritance, no one is actually mourning over his death except for in the beginning. It almost seems that they care more about the money than their actual family. They all had different relations with the grandfather, most of them had been cut out of the inheritance for different reasons. They would all later find out that the maid that had been taking care of him would get everything, his house, business, and his money. This would lead to them feeling indignant. This story relates to when Gatsby died, it seems that no one cared and they used him for his money and parties. I believe that it’s always important to have good relations with the people around you. Another thing is that even if you don't like someone, it's important to have connections with people. Gatsby had this same kind of thinking, he always had people and connections throughout the story, like the card the mayor gave Gatsby, and many other credible people helped boost his credibility. It's also important to surround yourself with people you love and support you. Gatsby clearly did struggle with this part, even though he did have Nick and before that he had Dan Cody, his mentor who taught him almost everything. Gatsby’s life ending was truly depressing, he died and most of his “friends'' didn't even show up to his funeral, not daisy, Jordan, Wolfsheim, and not klipspringer who leeched of Gatsby for his parties. I am lucky enough to have people all around me who will support me to the end.
