A Big Day for Baseball by Mary Pope Osborn
This chapter is great to expand students' imagination. Because it is a chapter book, it would be read aloud over the course of a few weeks and give students something to look forward to. The material in the book also has great potential for a class project based around imagination, and time traveling. Having students come up with stories about what year they would want to travel to and why gives students a great creative writing opportunity.

Diary of a Fly by Doreen Cronin
This book has lots of sound effect opportunities creating an engaging story for young students. The story goes through the adventures of a young fly as well as it's dreams of becoming a superhero. This is great for children to pretend they want to become superheroes, and if so, what kind. It also provides a great opportunity to give a lesson about good citizenship and using your powers for good, instead of evil.

The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier- This scary ghost story that includes life lessons about human greed, and just how powerful story-telling is. While this story may be scary, it can be read interactively by reading with flashlights in a true "ghost-story" fashion. Because it is a longer book, it would be read over an extended period of time creating chances for students to make predictions about what they think may happen throughout the story.

That dream turns into a reality and each page goes through her views of NYC from a flying perspective. This book gives students a great chance to write about what superpower they may want, where they would want to fly over, what they would see when they did and so on. Each of the books in the series link together which is great to keep students interested and engaged. The plot of the book involves finding a missing fairy and dealing with the obstacles they must overcome. These books are great for problem solving and asking students through out the story what they would do if they were in the situation of the main character, and also great for making predictions on what they think the characters will end up choosing

Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell-
Dear Zoo is a story about a boy who writes a letter to the local zoo keeper talking about how he wants a pet from the zoo. The story has lift-the-flap pages through out the show which pets he gets sent. This book encourages participation by having students lift the flaps on the pages, and make predictions on what animal will be revealed. Dear Zoo also gets students to make connections to their home life by talking about pets they may currently own, or want to own.

The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalk- This is a story of a bunch of crayons that decided to write letters to their owner. The crayons were sick and tired of not being used enough, and quit. While this is very unrealistic, it is an easy topic for young children to relate to because they use crayons in their class almost everyday. This story would be great to read aloud when teaching about colors, or art projects. It is also very humorous which means it does a great job of keeping students interested. This book would be best for children in pre-k through 2nd grade because the content is easy, but older children may think the overall idea is silly. It is also great for a read aloud because the teacher could ask students questions about their favorite crayon color and why, and they could draw their own pictures based on the ones from the story.

Joseph Had a Little Overcoat by Simms Tabeck- This is a great book to get kids to interact and be engaged during read aloud time. It is a story about a man who's coat had holes in it, so he made a jacket, when the jacket was ruined he created something else. The deeper meaning of this book is that anything that's average can be turned into something that is great. This book is definitely more appropriate for children who are younger, because of the goofy aspect it displays. This story also inspires kids to bring out their creative side, making it a great book for creative writing, or art class.

This story eventually leads into a deeper meaning of community and makes for a great teaching moment. This book is a great read aloud because students can jump in to predict what they think will happen next. This book also gives the teacher a chance read the book with great expression and create suspense. Because of the content, this book would be better suited for younger children. With that being said, the humor in the book is very fitting for all ages.

Pax by Sara Pennypacker- This book is more fitted for students who are 8-12 years old, but can be read aloud by the teacher to kids a little younger. It involves a story about a boy and his close bond with a fox. They are separated because the boy's father goes to war and he must release the fox into the wild. By the end of the story, the two are reunited. This book would be a perfect read aloud because the students would be paying close attention the whole time, and on the edge of their seat. It can be used in a discussion about someone the children may have a close relationship with, or a time when they missed someone.

I would not read this to students younger than 10 years old, because of the content. I believe this book is so important to read to students at some point in their academic career because of how courageous Anne Frank and the people that hid her were. Reading this story aloud with contribute to great discussions.

While this does not necessarily contribute to a specific school subject, it a great entertaining book. It is awesome for read aloud because students can jump in and relate to thing Walt Disney has done, and share their memories of when they visiting Disney themselves. He is such an important person for students to know because of how big an impact he had on this country. Reading this book out loud would be a great way to introduce the Civil Rights Movement and the idea of equality. It is also great to read out loud because there are many great discussion opportunities for students, and gives them a chance to talk about their feelings and opinions revolving around this topic. This book is definitely most suited for students who are younger around 5-8 years old. The reason for this is because the book has a lot of pictures and has simple words.

This book is great to read aloud to students as an introduction to reading any of Dr. Seuss' books. It is important for a student to know about the person writing the stories they enjoy so much. Dr. Seuss is also a very iconic author in children's literature, and learning about his life would be super beneficial to children. It discusses colors, and animals, in addition to the rhyming patterns on every page. The watercolor illustrations are perfect for an art lesson. Another great aspect of this book is the mystery of where the Green Sheep actually is. It is designed for children ages 3-5, and has great illustrations and rhyming words. The rhymes are great for teaching words that sounds alike and poetry. This book has fantastic illustrations that create a 3-D effect, while teaching an important lesson. The book also has students participate such as creating sounds effects, and practicing the rhyming on their own. That is the main reason why this is such a great read aloud book, because the students get to do the rhymes themselves giving them firsthand practice. It is designed for children ages 5-6, but younger and older children also love the illustrations and songs to sing along with.

His friends were determined to help him roll just like them, making for a very uplifting and inspiring book. The rhymes in the book create a perfect place to start a lesson on poetry. The rhymes flow very well, and there in a great storyline as well. In addition to being great to teach poetry, it is also useful in teaching lessons about friendship. It is great for children ages 4-8, but contains powerful meaning and language for all ages.

Animalium: Welcome to the Museum by Jenny Broom- Animalium is a book that teaches children about the animal kingdoms through beautiful illustrations. This is a great read aloud book for young children with short attention spans. The reason for this is because you can pick up in a different spot each time you read it. I would use this book when introducing animals in a science lesson, and to show students that animals are all grouped differently. It is designed for children ages 8-12 because the content goes into a deeper meaning, but the photos and general idea of the book could be used for younger children as well.

This book is a great way of hooking students on the topic of the human body because the information is displayed in a humorous way. This book is also great for students with short attention spans, because it is easy to pick up, and read a few pages at a time because of the way it is divided up.

Although this book's main purpose is to help with counting skills, there is a story line to keep students engaged. Counting books make for great read aloud's by giving students the opportunity to count out as a group for practice.
