Students of the Fifth class were involved in a project with the purpose to become familiar with the cultural heritage of their village. Firstly, they studied some locations in Kornos, such as the church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, Kornos’ caves and hilltops with characteristic shape. They also studied Kornos’ old houses style and architecture and the traditional occupations developed in the area, emphasizing the art of pottery. Furthermore, students examined various Cypriot tales and legends, identifying characteristics of the heroes and plot. Finally, they wrote their own tales, involving in the story main characters of the Cypriot tales, locations of Kornos and the clay pots with the characteristic birds.

The children of the Sixth class had the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities. In particular, they had the opportunity to learn folk tales written in the Cypriot dialect. They came in contact with the Cypriot folk tales "Tyrimos" and "Spanos and the 40 Dragons". Through these fairy tales, they had the opportunity to appreciate the Cypriot dialect and the creative imagination of the people. Starting with these fairy tales, they identified the characteristics of folk fairy tales, created monologues of persons of texts, illustrated and dramatized scenes of fairy tales. At the same time, they learned the technique of engraving through the illustration of Hambis the engraver in the tale "Spanos and the 40 Dragons".

The children were then asked to write their own "folk" fairy tale, in Greek this time. The children worked with great enthusiasm, creating either fairy tales that were exclusively their own findings or borrowing and incorporating elements from the tales we had studied. Then, in collaboration with the art teacher, the children were enthralled in the art of printmaking and created their own engravings inspired either by their own fairy tale or by the two fairy tales we had chosen from their tales. At the same time, they had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work and life of Michalis Kasialos and to get in touch with his paintings. Through these works, they had the opportunity to experience the world of Cyprus in earlier times. They also came into contact with traditional professions. The children gathered and presented information about traditional professions, made electronic presentations and compared life in the present and in the old days.

Additionally, the children came in contact with the poetry of Dimitris Lipertis and the world of Lipertis as it appears in his poems. They studied his poems and worked with enthusiasm for the final performance of the school, dedicated to the poetry of Lipertis.

We also invited a school poet from the community of Kornos, who talked with the children during an “interview- project”. The children had the opportunity to learn about life at school in earlier times and to ask questions about traditional professions that existed in the community.

Through the poet's own mouth, they heard his poems, written in the Cypriot dialect, and asked questions about his role as a poet and his poems in general. The children were impressed and moved.

In the Music lesson, the children had the opportunity to get acquainted with Lipertis’ songs. Some of which will be presented at the final ceremony is th end of the school year. In the gymnastics lesson they learned to dance Syrto, as well.

At the same time, they were invited to create leaflets in order to advertise the beauties and culture of Cyprus to foreign tourists. Finally, the children visited the Medieval Castle of Limassol, a tourist attraction of Cyprus, the Kallinikio Museum in Athienou and the house of the monk Kallinikos. In the museum they came into contact with the antiquities of Cyprus, the hagiographical art of the monk Kallinikos and the art of the mosaic. They also participated in an educational program for embroidery and had the opportunity to appreciate the embroidery art and embroidery work. Visiting the house of the monk Kallinikos, they had the opportunity to study a house from old times and learn how haloumi, a traditional food is made The program seemed to have kept children's interest unchanged throughout.
