A notable lyric of this iconic song is:

This song outlines the hardships that Africans had to face during the times of slavery and colonization, and recognizes the impacts it may have on other Africans. Marley then goes on to state that one should be proud of oneself and free their minds of the perceived stigma that has been unfairly placed onto them. This song is a perfect example of promoting unity and fostering the Caribbean Identity through the use of art.
