         <description><![CDATA[<div>While Jamaica, and Marley himself, was experiencing times of hardship he sought to change the perspective of people through his music, especially through this song. A notable lyric of this iconic song is:<br> "<strong>Emancipate yourself from mental slavery none but our self can free our minds </strong>"<br>This song outlines the hardships that Africans had to face during the times of slavery and colonization, and recognizes the impacts it may have on other Africans. Marley then goes on to state that one should be proud of oneself and free their minds of the perceived stigma that has been unfairly placed onto them. This song is a perfect example of promoting unity and fostering the Caribbean Identity through the use of art.<br><br></div>]]></description>
