-our values are many times influenced by culture

-values create our perspective and how we look at the world

-we look at information through our perspective for example: if I have an ecocentric perspective-->I value the nature as it is because its valuable on its own

-since we tend to look at new information through our perspective-->we need to think about subjectivity and objectivity manifesting in our acquisition of knowledge

-information bias

-interpretation

-responsibility to be objective but impossible

Justification

-If our values are for example protecting the nature-->we will probably be very positive about new sustainable technology such as solar panels even if it was more expensive and creates costs for us

However--if our values are focused more on what is cheaper for us and easier while not caring about the planet we would probably not take the sustainable ideas well and we would not listen to the benefits and focus more on the negative side

(picture from:andreas160578 on Pixabay)

Question 9: Are some types of knowledge less open to interpretation than others?

In our education system we are urged to interpret facts and question them. A case always has two sides, and a fact can be influenced by external factors. Therefore we are taught to be critical of our source. However, from an early age we learned that math always has one answer and one way to solve it. This is shown through a math book's answer page and formula pages. Therefore, knowledge learnt through formulas, is often less open to interpretation than other kinds of knowledge.

Question 22: What role do experts play in our consumption or acquisition of knowledge?

In our current education system and outside of it, our knowledge is very dependent on what is passed down from us by other knowers. In my object I have chosen the IB global politics textbook. We trust the authors of this book to teach us all we need to know for these next 2 years as well as the IB trusting that they are verifiable experts on this subject and will be as neutral for the IB as possible. We also understand that we will only know what they want us to and inevitably they will leave out some of their knowledge on these subjects, not necessarily out of spite but most likely just time constraints. Nonetheless, as of these experts we are missing out on some acquisition of knowledge that we might have gained from other experts.

Depending on the country in which you are raised in, the history that you are taught through the educational system will be bias your country. The syllabus are designed by the government who will prioritize the production of knowledge about their country over others. Therefore, a history book is a good representation on how bias is inevitable in the production of knowledge.

Some information is similar to most people for example, making of bread. However, this information will differ in recipe books from one person to another, as everyone will write according to what they believe to be the best way to make bread.

Some people will have, for example, specific ingredients they believe bring bread to life, and that without them, bread will not be at its best. These ingredients, therefore, might be valued differently by different people, affecting the production of knowledge on how to make bread.

To those who these ingredients mean bread is made, they will include them while to those with different values may not include them. This will bring about differences in knowledge produced due to different values.
