I would go in for tutoring sessions with my teacher, I would get extra help from my mom and siblings, but I never improved. I would work really hard after school on my homework, but always got bad grades.

I told her no because I didn't want people to see that I didn't understand the material. Everyone else in my class seemed to be understanding it, except me. I felt dumb and didn't want to let anybody know, so I never got extra help until fifth grade.

How does this relate to the theme?

This relates to the theme because it is showing that other people understood it, but I didn't. I've struggled with it since I was in 2nd grade. I never understood it, I had a hard time putting together numbers, and it just never made sense to me. Math has gotten easier over time, but it's still difficult. It gets easier, but it takes time.
