In fifth grade, I was terrible at math. I would go in for tutoring sessions with my teacher, I would get extra help from my mom and siblings, but I never improved. I would work really hard after school on my homework, but always got bad grades.

How does this relate to the theme?

This relates to the theme because it's showing that I had a personal struggle and connection to academics being tough.

In fourth grade, my teacher took me to the side and told me that she could tell I had been struggling in math , and asked if I needed extra help. I told her no because I didn't want people to see that I didn't understand the material. Everyone else in my class seemed to be understanding it, except me. I felt dumb and didn't want to let anybody know, so I never got extra help until fifth grade.

How does this relate to the theme?

This relates to the theme because it is showing that other people understood it, but I didn't. That proves that it's not for everyone.

Math has never come easy for me. I've struggled with it since I was in 2nd grade. I never understood it, I had a hard time putting together numbers, and it just never made sense to me. Math has gotten easier over time, but it's still difficult. It gets easier, but it takes time.

How does this relate to the theme?

This relates to the theme because it's showing that it gets better, but it's not natural for everyone.
