One of my findings I found in one of my articles was that one of them really gets into depth with how the Middle East is seen in Hollywood. I can connect this back to the stereotypes that still take place in modern day.

One of my articles discussed the importance of conserving Native American land, and making sure it is given to its rightful owner, which was one of the issues in the movie Pocahontas, due to the colonists taking over the land.

This article is compelling because we can compare the orientalistic ideas between the other films of the time and specifically our film Peter Pan. The time period and other stereotypes/perspectives on the group will allow us to better understand the reasoning behind the ideas and therefore their origins

The article talks about how a lot of studies on Native Americans are biased because they’re told from a Western point of view. It says researchers often ignore Native voices and ways of life, which makes the history feel one-sided. The author basically says we need to look at Native history through their own perspective to really understand it.

What I found most compelling was how the article pointed out that most Native American history has been told through outsiders’ eyes. It made me think about how different the story would sound if it came from Native voices instead. I also liked how it challenged people to rethink what “history” even means and to include Indigenous perspectives that are usually left out.

What’s missing from the research is a stronger focus on Native voices and experiences. It talks a lot about how history is studied, but doesn’t include enough firsthand stories or perspectives from Indigenous people themselves. Hearing directly from them would make the research feel more complete and real.

In my first article, I discovered that there was an increase in terrorist attacks throughout the conflicts post 9/11, resulting in mass casualties.

The article is compelling because through the racial stereotypes with the film rush hour. Being in the late 90s it allowed more free speech instead of the time now.

A perspective I believe is missing is how everyone sees the Middle East and why that is the case the way we see them and make stereotypes about them.

The article primarily focuses on negative representations of Asian culture but doesn't talk much about overly positive representations of the culture. I find this important because exaggerating "positive representations" can lead to unrealistic expectations, enforcing a distorted version of that culture.
