When she realized that we only have one chapter left, she was so disappointed. We went online and bought the whole series so she can read more about Humphrey's adventures. Even my son (a 6th grader) liked the story.

This has definitely been a worthwhile project!! I'm so excited that it has been a city-wide effort; looking forward to the possibility of doing the same in the future!

I love hearing how families are reading together again. This is a great community wide project that is buiding the bridge between school and home. I hope that we are able to keep this program goinng.

This has been a worthwhile project. I have heard of many families that were reading this together. I have also heard families mention that they need to find a new book to read together as a family since they are finished with Humphrey. Getting families to read together is the importance of this project.

What a great project, but the book was on too high of a level for our younger students, k/1st in particular. Is there any way to have one book for k-2 maybe? And another for 3-6?

Awesome project. I was worried about K - 1 students. Its hard for them to remember all the pieces of each chapter especially by the following day for triva. They did try really hard though!

I loved the book, but I noticed my students not really getting into it... Perhaps if we had done a daily trivia rather than once a week, they would have had more of an incentive to keep reading daily.

My children liked the book, but I just wonder if, for the cost there is a better way to help kids read. Is there any research on this program, that it has any type of long term improvement of reading scores?

Most of my students were reading the book at home and loved the book and discussing it. Perhaps something can be done for younger students who cannot remember the trivia question or write it themselves.

As a parent, I enjoyed spending time reading this book with my children. They loved the book, and I was pleased with the message of helping others and expecting nothing in return. Society today could learn a few things from Humphrey! As an educator, I also enjoyed the book and the discussions I was able to have with my students. I did find the book to be a little bit awkward to read aloud from at times, with the way items were phrased. The students and I had a great time trying to figure out what the trivia question could be for the daily drawings! I would like to see the district participate in the ODOB again! A big thank you to all of the local businesses that helped with this, and to the Great Bend Public Library for their special event night!

I had a few students that really enjoyed the book, however with my class being upper elementary I noticed not all of them were in to it. I love the idea of promoting family literacy and I think it is very important. I hope we do this project again, or something very similar. As a teacher I would definitely try to promote the book more in my class.

we did daily trivia questions at our school, and drew winners. Luckily, after the first few days, the aunt and uncle of two of our students stepped up and offered to buy candy bars to use as prizes. That seemed to motivate some of the kids! I had enough to have one winner most days, five winners the next to last day, and ten winners on the last day. I heard good things about the Nocturnal Nights that the public library put on in conjunction with it, and thought that was a great idea. I'm not sure how well the bookmarks worked out. It was a cute book, I enjoyed reading it, but it was not as easy to read aloud as some others are. All in all, I thought it was pretty well-organized and well-run, especially since it was our first try!!

Great way to keep interest in reading between parents and students!! Also, very thoughtful that the book was provided in spanish for our parents.

This was a great experience for my daught and self. We looked forward to reading each chapter because they were not very long. Then I would make up questions for her to answer, and excitedly wait to know what the trivia question was, to see if it was a question we already discussed. The book was a good choice, and even made me want to get a hamster. All the activities that the library put on and the extra things throughout the community were great. We are eager for the next One District One Book selection and activities.

My class really enjoyed it! The majority were able to read it at home every night. I also read the book to the class every morning just in case there were some who forgot to read or weren't able to read at home.

My high readers really liked it but my lower readers were not motivated to read at home. I really liked sharing the book with my class but think we need to increase parent communication. I spoke with several parents who weren't clear on what it was for. If we had better parent involvement maybe it would increase participation in those lower readers. Maybe have the upper grades write the trivia questions as a way to increase their participation.

My class loved the book. I think we could've communicated with families better. I had several families who had no idea what was going on. I also think we could have explained the community events/ bookmarks a little better, many people were confused about those. I really hope we get to do it again!

I did hear a lot of talk about the book out and about in the community and among the kids.

I think the concept is a great idea - getting everyone involved. But I know the upper grades in our building struggled to read the book on a daily basis - there was no ownership in reading a chapter each night. The excitement for winning the daily question even tapered off. I had a drawing in my class as well due to the fact that our building only drew two names each day. Better parent involvement or awareness is needed. If we are doing this again - maybe have the information about it at Open House?? Explaining the community events is a definite must as well.
