In the Beginning of the 21st Century, they took approaches from the first to the third forces to create the fourth approach which is not called the Comprehensive and Holistic approach. Clinicians were trying to understand people as a whole such as gender, culture, age, race, and sexual orientation. They wanted to create a better understanding so that they could help a person look at multiple perspectives of one self. They wanted to become an 'Ally" with their clients so that they have that understanding and empathy with their clients.

Seligman and Reichenberg, 2014, pg 3.
