Throughout this semester, I have had the opportunity to learn and build my literacy and fluency instruction knowledge both in this course, RDG 413, as well as in my student teaching placement in 5th grade. Being in a math, science, and social studies placement for my student teaching this semester, I was really looking forward to having this additional opportunity to learn about literacy, fluency, and overall reading instruction, as well as the opportunity to observe these actively in other classrooms at my school, and have the chance to not only grow in observing different reading teaching elements but the different teaching styles of other educators at my school. Through my time in this course, I was really looking forward to the opportunity to grow in my literacy instruction in a variety of manners, building my skill set in not only instruction in fluency and literacy, but also interventions, lesson planning, strategies, and overall gain what I need to give my students the best literacy, fluency and reading instruction possible. 

During my learning, I have gained knowledge on not only teaching reading to my students, but also a variety of strategies I can assess their literacy and fluency, as well as intervention strategies I can use both with individual students as well as modified plans for a whole class and small groupings of students, including strategies where I can pair students at both the same and different ability levels. In my portfolio, I had the opportunity to create an intervention lesson plan for a student's grade level reading and fluency abilities. Being at a school with a focus on small group instruction, I approached this lesson with the idea of modifying my instruction to teach to a whole class, with the ability to work more indepth with groupings of students in need of interventions, as well as intensifications and modifications for students working at different or higher ability levels. In my planning, I felt approaching the lesson from a vocabulary and fluency building perspective, working on these sections of the lesson with my small group intervention lesson, would benefit my assessed students best, which I felt prompteg good results.  I had the opportunity to work on this lesson with the advanced ELA teacher in my placement, which was a wonderful opportunity to learn from how she plans, instructs and intervenes in her classroom, which I also learned from the opportunities I had to observe and spend time in her class. 

The artefacts I chose show important growth and learning in my knowledge and interpretation of literacy and fluency instruction, and are modeled in a differentmanner in each of the provided examples, as they show a different area of my learning and different inmepmentations of material and knowledge I have gained in this course and in my student teaching. Overall, this semester in this course and my placement has given me the learning and tools I need to prepare me for my future career as an educator, and how not only to help my students best succeed in reading and fluency, but all aspects of their learning and education.
