A good night's sleep, for some, is not that easy to get. A lot of factor can cause one not to get enough rest at night. Some of these factors include insomnia, stress, sleep apnea, depression and a lot of other sleep disorders. Here are some helpful and effective tips that can improve your sleep.

1. Reduce your nap time.

Since childhood, parents usually let their children take a nap in the afternoon or even in the morning after they get tired from playing. Nap times help children grow faster. However, if you're an adult and you feel like you have a hard time going to bed at night, maybe you would consider reducing your nap time or even skipping it completely. If you really have to nap, make it earlier in the afternoon so you won't be deprived of the much-needed rest when you need it at night.

2. Exercise

Having a great work out from time to time is a good way to stay healthy. It also helps you to rest better at night. However, exercising right before bed time may not be the best time to do it because it alerts the brain and would not help you sleep at all. If you exercise at night, make sure to do it three hours (or more) before you go to sleep.

3. Eat right

Dinner time should be scheduled several hours before you go to sleep. Certain foods could cause indigestion and would trigger you to wake up in the middle of the night. You might want to choose to eat light in the evening. This way, you would not only sleep better, but also improve your overall health. You also have to regulate your fluid intake. Drink just enough so you won't wake up because of thirst, but not too much to wake you up to go to the bathroom.

4. Avoid caffeine

Coffee is only good if you want to stay awake. But, if you have problems sleeping, then you should avoid taking it several hours before bedtime. Caffeine can also be found in some tea, cola and chocolates.

5. Set your sleeping schedule.

This may take a while to do as you would need to make your body get used to sleeping at a certain time and waking up at the same time every day. In the weekends, it is better not to make an exception to the schedule as you would need to reset your routine again once Monday comes.

6. Establish a routine.

Doing some relaxing activities like reading, watching, taking hot baths, or listening to music can induce sleep. Some people have problems sleeping because of some problems they can't seem to avoid thinking. The activities that were mentioned early would take your thoughts out of those stressful problems, distracting your brain. It would also help if you keep a quiet and comfortable environment in your room. Wear ear plugs if it is impossible to lessen the noise from the outside. Make your beddings as inviting as possible, too. You might also want to take at home sleep test to see if you need some special medical attention for your sleep deprivation. This kind of test can be done in the comfort of your home.
