- In 1995 at a football game a student, who was elected as the student council Chaplin, read off a prayer. The student was described as overtly Christian.
- Two mothers, who were a Catholic and a Mormon, filed a lawsuit against the school district for practicing this and different things under *the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
- The district allowed student led prayer but not school led. If it was non-denominational.
- The Federal Court decided on June 19, 2000, that because it was on government owed and government led event the prayers were not private, but were public. They were not allowed to pray at football games or any school led events.

- The Fifth Court ruling was 6-3 for not having student led prayer at school led functions because it was on government owned land and at government led events.
- It established that we are not allowed to pray at school events.
- It affects us today by still having to follow that rule. We are not allowed to pray before games or during graduations.
Opinions in the Court
- By Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, later joined by Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, they noted the "disturbing" tone of the Court's opinion was "bristled with hostility in all things religious in life".
