I do not know what it is..., but every time I see Adele, I somehow think about you all the time, Lani. :-)

(And as you are leaving, I do not care if you like Adele or not, but I do like Adele!)

Why? I do not know why, but maybe this is why: to me..., Adele presents herself as a real an genuine person who is not afraid of anything or saying "I do not know" as an answer when she really does not. I think this requires so much confidence in today's society.

Usually, people do not remember what others did to you, but people never forget what others made you feel.

I was still with the Central HR Advisory Services, I remember seeing this "girl" coming to the 6th floor of TEF3 every so often in attending meetings, leading and preparing for the success of the Workday Launch. It must have been like back in 2017 or 2018.

I remember feeling so warm and being appreciated every time this "girl" acknowledged us, sitting in front of the elevators at that strange desk space on that 6th floor back then, by saying "Hi Guys! How are you?"

We, the UBC HR Community, had this shining "girl" who was (still IS) so fabulous, confident, powerful yet thoughtful, compassionate, very caring and so funny too!

Her strong leadership style especially the way how she empowers her team members and people around her has always been inspirational and something I respected very much.

I remember feeling "One day, I want to work with this "girl" and learn from her", so when I got my ISC SD position, I was very excited to be able to work even closer to her.

I remember feeling joyous, excited and very happy when I got my current CFP position because it was like "This is my dream job in what I do and in people I work with."

I did not need to tell her what I have learned or known from my HR time. Rather, she either knew, trusted me in what I have done, and/or empowered me to make me feel that "Hey, Masa. You know this! You got this!" so I can do a good job. When I needed some guidance, she would usually asked me questions so that I could think to resolve whatever I was facing on my own.

One day, when I was so much younger, the confidence I built was destroyed in the work environment before joining UBC. This became one of my reasons why I decided to pursue my HR career, so I could help others build their confidence and I wanted to breakthrough my own dark times.

Jacqui Noftall, Bev Babey, Kristy Miller to name a few who helped me build my new self-confidence along the way here at UBC. They all made me feel being so supported and caring and beyond.

This "girl" also played a HUGE role in my professional life here at UBC. I do not know how I can thank her, or maybe you can help me by telling her that she has helped me build my confidence and furthermore she's boosted my confidence level, so that I feel I am strong enough to help others breakthrough their own challenging times.

She is simply fabulously amazing and wish her the best of luck in her next journey in whatever she does.

I am crying my eyes out and should stop here now... I will miss her so much. (blowing my nose and drying off my tears...)

I will miss you so very much, but more than anything else, I am very happy that you are taking care of yourself first.

From the bottom of my heart, thank YOU, Lani, so much for all your guidance, leadership and inspiration for all these years.

I look forward to seeing you around.
