         <title>First empire by Iturbide (1821-1823)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The First Mexican Empire was declared &amp; Agustín de Iturbide became the emperor of Mexico.<br><br><strong>Ideology</strong>: During this time, the division between conservatives and liberals was clear and obvious. Agustín de Iturbide was <mark>conservative</mark>, and he satisfied the needs of all conservative people. However, many liberals wanted a democratic republic.<br><br><strong>Type of government:</strong> Empire<br><br><strong>Contribution to democracy and/or human rights</strong>: When Agustín de Iturbide was proclaimed as an emperor,  people wanted a democracy.          <title>First Federal Republic (1824-1825)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The First Federal Republic was proclaimed after the downfall of Agustín de Iturbide, the Mexican people established a republic. <br>Guadalupe Victoria was declared the first president of Mexico as a republic.<br><br><strong>Ideology</strong>: The President Guadalupe Victoria was a <mark>liberal federalist</mark>, but his vice president, Nicolás Bravo, was a conservative centralist.<br><br><strong>Type of government</strong>: Federal Republic<br><br><strong>Contribution to democracy and/or human rights</strong>: During this time, a republic benefited both democracy and human rights of society and gave them a right to vote for their president.<br><br><strong>APA SOURCES:</strong><br>Primera República Federal de México (1823-1835).          <title>Mexican-American War (1846-1848)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The new U.S. president, James K. Polk, wanted Texas as part of the United States. But Mexico considered the annexation of Texas as an act of war. So on May 13, 1846, the USA Congress declared war on Mexico after the request from President James K. Polk. The war ended on May 26, 1848, when both countries ratified a peace treaty that ended the conflict. <br><br><strong>Ideology</strong>: During this time the ideology was <mark>liberalism</mark> because Texas wanted to have individual freedom or a division of power  from Mexico. <br><br><strong>Type of government</strong>: Mexico was a dictatorship because of Santa Anna's presidency.<br><br><strong>Contribution to democracy and/or human rights</strong>: The Mexican-American War gave Texas an opportunity to have freedom of assembly (human rights).          <title>Santa Anna&#39;s dictatorship (1853-56)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was a Mexican politician and general. Santa Anna ruled in a dictatorial way from 1853-1856. He was involved in Mexico's politics during such events as the Texas Revolution and the Mexican-American War.<br><br><strong>Ideology</strong>: Although he initially supported liberals and federalists, Santa Anna is usually described as <mark>conservative</mark>. <br><br><strong>Type of government</strong>: Dictatorship<br><br><strong>Contribution to democracy and/or human rights: </strong>During Santa Anna's dictatorship, there was no contribution to democracy due to the fact that a dictatorship is absolute and people can't participate in decision-making.<br><strong><br>APA SOURCES:<br></strong>Antonio López de Santa Anna.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Constitution of 1857 was made during the presidency of Ignacio Comonfort. It prohibited slavery as well as the restriction against the freedom of speech. The Constitution of 1857 stated that Mexico should be a representative and democratic country.<br><br><strong>Ideology</strong>: The ideology during the Constitution of 1857 was <mark>liberal</mark>.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Reform War which is also known as the three year war,  consisted on a conflict between the liberals and conservatives. This war also brought the abolition of respect directed to the constitutional articles.<br><br><strong>Ideology</strong>: During this reform, the ideology was <mark>liberalism</mark> because it was a very significant war between the liberals and conservatives and since the liberals won, they got to be liberals.<br><br><strong>Type of government: </strong>Dictatorship<br><br><strong>Contribution to democracy and/or human rights</strong>: The contribution was to democracy since the liberals won and what they wanted was that every people had the same amount of power and stabilize the political economic and cultural power of the military and the church.<br><br><strong>APA SOURCES:</strong><br>E.          <title>French Intervention (1861-1867</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This intervention was between Mexico and the second French empire. France got help from Spain and Great Britain since Benito Juárez, the president of Mexico back then, refused to cancel a debt with France. This was declared during an assembly during the second french intervention. <br><br><strong>Ideology: </strong>During the second empire, the ideology was <mark>liberal</mark> even though conservatives took an important role, but the liberals where the group of people that were victors.<br><br><strong>Type of government: </strong>Empire<br><br><strong>Contribution to democracy and/or human rights: </strong>The contribution was<strong><br></strong>for both, democracy and human rights because ever since the government was ruled under the constitution of 1857, a lot of human rights where granted to the people.<br><br><strong>APA SOURCES: <br></strong>F. When Benito Juarez was elected, he restored the republic because of his progress of making Mexico move and progress.
