Frankly, seems like she is just a slightly square peg in a world demanding all circles. I think you've done an amazing job working with her and that she is already on the right trajectory anyway. For the student's own development I would be more inclined to allow her considerably more choice in her environment, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else's learning. Maybe project based learning would give her that chance?

Great job Robyn. Visual reminders are so helpful for students like this. They are able to be responsible at seeing her reminders without you having to redirect her.

Well done!, Robyn! I have to say the case study student is just like one of my lovely students, also 8 years old, grade 2, and raised by her grandma. She also has the same routine and disciplinary problems. I used many same strategies as you. For me, what works best with kids like this is consistent attention, praising their creativity and artistic talent, and establishing rules for consistency.

That was a simply brilliant presentation! I really like the idea of how you manage the class by assigning class jobs where students will be paid, fined and assigned points (if they do well? - I'm not sure, there's a point beside their jobs).
