A. What is the problem and the problem?

There is a problem going on in the US and that is they are lots of immigrants coming in the U.S and they have to leave Central America. They leave to escape violence from there home country. But there is a lot less immigrants than most of the U.S thought. When El Salvador had a war in 1980, and the U.S was supporting the death squads and 75,000 people were killed in the war. It created a lot of problems and they still happen in modern days.

B. How has the problem effected the community directly?

It has affected the community because there is less immigrants coming from their own countries and there is lots of violence in there government Lots of families and 2,206 kids have got seperated at the U.S border and it takes them a long time to reunite. They also might have to leave the U.S and they do not want to come back to their home countries and return to the terrible conditions.

C. Why should the rest of the world should be concerned about this issue?

The rest of the world should be concerned about this issue because most of the illegal immigrants that arrive at the U.S border get arrested and they have to go back to their countries. The rest of the world should be concerned because in the U.S, you have to apply for naturalization and that is a hard process to go through and you can't just come in the U.S and live there.

D. What is currently being done to address this problem?

What is currently being done is that U.N.I.C.E.F is making schools more safe for kids because violent gangs target schools, preventing violence at home, and the U.S is giving aid to Central America. U.N.I.C.E.F is teaching parents to be less violent at home in Honduras. In Guatemala, U.N.I.C.E.F is making cash assistance programs for people living in poverty. The U.S has gave $65.8 million for Honduras, $69.4 million for Guatemala, and $45.7 million for El Salvador.

July 1. We live in Guatemala, and Papa and Mama told me we have to leave. They said it was because this country is really scary. I believed him because school is very scary to go too. Lots of my friends say that they don't go to school. My parents are strict and said we have to go to America now before the rest leaves. July 2. We have been walking with tons of strangers and it is sometimes hard to find them through all these people. My friend, Maya, is going to the U.S too so she and I can be together. She has already got lost in all these people. July 16. We have finally arrived to the U.S but I cannot find Papa, Mama, and Maya. Then I see them. I run up to them and hug them. Wait 1 second… Papa does not have a goatee, and Mama never puts her hair in a bun. I think I was separated from my parents, just like Maya!
