She must feel anxious and embarrassed of her situation. It must be super hard to constantly worry about home life scenarios. That constant anxiety of if you smell or forgot something must eat at her. I can imagine prioritizing student life is extremely stressful when home life is in disarray. Before school she has to worry about how she will get ready. At school she has to stress having all of her materials. Then she has to stress after school about homework.

The student might be really tired and does it might not be a motivation thing for him. He might fall behind in school because of his exhaustion. Students might be looked at as lazy and unmotivated if the whole story is unknown. It's important to put ourselves in the child's shoes because even we are not as productive when we don't get enough school. Some schools might be lenient and allow a student to sleep during lunch or for a few minutes in the back of the classroom. The work we get out of students that we force to stay awake during class is not as high quality as it would be if the child was awake and ready to learn.

I would feel embarrassed and upset because of being late, but even more so if my teacher called me out over why I am late. Something I do not have control over. One bathroom per floor, I would feel frustrated and go to school unprepared. There is a mix of emotions I would feel, like scared, embarrassed, and upset. Because if the teacher does it, then students would too, and this would be even harder to handle. You see the difference in your environment and hope to be more expressive and trust, but fot it to be dismissed is anxiety ridden to expose their situation and be wrong in what they say. The teacher should be more discretely and in a more concerned tone that is not public to all. The tone wasnt as sincere, making Maya feel uncomfortable. We assumed the teacher was female, off the bat.

The emotions would cause sluggish behavior, because of the low energy, more tired, and head down alot. No independence because she is constantly sharing and feels the replication of her home and school life. There is no moment of peace.

To improve the classmates' story, the teachers can be more empathetic and spatially aware, and not single out the kid in conversation. The students can be kinder in their words and actions to not ostracize students like Maya.
