My idea is about making an amusement park map. At the entrance, the ride is easier and as I go deeper into the park, the ride gets more harder and scarier. The first ride is “Merry-go-round”, it is the most easiest and calming ride, similar to my childhood, it was mellow and happy. The second ride is “Road Trip”, I always love going on family trips, especially going to the beach and made a lot of happy memories. “Swing Tower of Joy” represents my joy when I got into top 3 in an English competition back in Vietnam. “Drop Tower of Grades” is when I got my first “D” in one of my class in high school, I felt like my heart dropped like how I was going on the “Drop Tower”. “Mirror Maze” represents my self doubt, whether it is about my identity, my talent, my sexuality, etc. “The Relax Boat” represents my neutral feeling toward the future, I do not know what will be ahead of me, but I do not need to think too hard about it and go along with the flow. “The Ink Rollercoaster” was about the incident when I was being bullied in fourth grade because I spilled ink on my friend’s uniform. Although I apologized, she did not take it lightly and started to spread false rumors about me to make the whole class isolate me. “Swinging Boat of Growing Up” shows how myself still swinging in between being a child and becoming an adult, it can be scary but I know I will manage. “Happy Haunted House” represents my fear of happiness, sometimes I got too happy or laughed too much, I afraid something bad is going to happen after. “The Lost Treasure” is about my “treasure box”, I used to store a lot of random things in there so when I lost it, I was really sad. Lastly, “The Ferris Wheel” is about my future goals, all of the little seats represents my short term goals to work toward the bigger goals.

Constellation Map of Past & Future

Hey everyone. I decided to make a Constellation Map for my project. I've attached 3 process photos along with 4 photos of it finished. Including an overview and some close ups of the Key & Compass Rose.
For my creative process, I really wanted to do something different. Which is why I went for making a Constellation Map. I got inspired from being shown one as an example in class. I guess the only stumbling blocks I had was what type of symbols to use for each constellation. As for my composition it was kind of a touch and go so to speak, as I was making it up as I went. I knew I wanted to sketch each constellation symbol first and then go over with a sharpie afterward. The sharpie was used to mark the dots/stars and then connect each one with lines to form the shape of each constellation symbol. As for the position of each symbol, I tried placing each one that is in the same category, close together. I think the only thing I tried to make interesting was the fact that I was trying out a different type of mapping style. The only thing I'd do differently would be to maybe try and color it in.

Mapping my past to present

Hello everyone!
I decided to make a candy land inspired map. This was my favorite game as a kid and have very fond memories of playing this game and wanted to incorporate it into my map. The map has little text but characters that have meaning to them because I thought that would take away from the idea of the map. I did forget to take pictures of the process of my mapping but if I did have to change one this in all of it, is to do more with the blank space, I got stuck on that so I left it because I didn’t know what to do or how to make it fit into the map idea. I mainly used sharpie and a thin pen to do most of the work, some paint pens and paint for the squares.

I’m currently starting over. I had a plan to do a murder mystery map, but I somehow found myself stuck on how to do that. So instead I’m doing a GPS road map.

Hello everyone, from the begging of starting this project I knew that I wanted to do the map black and white. I wanted to go with he theme of fairies and animals because I thought it would look cool. I have a mostly good memories on the map, a goal, and two things I struggle with. Overall I tried to include only happy thing and happy drawings!!

Hello everyone!
As for my thought process, I wanted to do something different and my main goal was to demonstrate my past in the most interesting way possible. As for the design, I kind of just drew whatever I thought would look interesting and appealing to the eye.I mapped my map like a butterfly because butterflies soar the world and that is how I feel like my life has been- through many experiences, even moving to the US from another country. I started off by drawing an image of my home country Iran. Next I drew some mountains because that is my interpretation of Norcal and the Santa Cruz Mountains. The mountains also symbolize the challenges and difficulties I have encountered. I drew flowers because life is like a flower. You start off like a seed and blossom through growing experiences. Last but not least, I drew a car because I am a car enthusiast and I feel like life is a race. In the blink of an eye you can miss out on an opportunity. You have to take advantage of every moment.
Drawing straight lines without a ruler was definitely the hardest part. It was also very difficult to draw the wings of the butterfly all in the same size. I am very satisfied with how my drawing turned out, so i don’t think i would do anything differently.

It took me waaaay to long to figure out a street pattern for this. Also to figure out turns for the directions, so the go to each point I wanna make in my map. Somehow things are starting to look up as I have a rough idea where to place things.

For this project I decided to do a map of my past. I showed things I have gone through with symbolism with natural elements and structures, and created an island for these. I noticed I focused more on emotions I have felt and how they affected me, instead of specific events. I wanted to do a simple, black and white map, focusing on the line element heavily.

So i took this as a literally level of happiness or sadness attached to certain life events timeline. This shows the compass rose as time clock with no real direction in life just the time that passes.
I started this piece off with 2002 working at 16, kicked out alleyway and the start of me going to all the concerts I could.

This shows moving to the front house, The greatwall of heartbreak over time getting broken into a brick wall to a fence to eventually letting my heart open to hop over the little fence. There is a drinking court that ends in a dead end. There is an admin ave, broken bone break from work way and when i got back the old ladies cramped my style.

Ok last close up.
This shows having two storks bringing two boys. The gravestone is the realization of not wanting to be a server the rest of my lifetime so even if it will be the death of me i will go back to school and obtain a degree to better my life and provide better life for my family. This also shows my ever so pressing problems of increasing rent prices in the bay area and having to move so many times. I called it mount saint renting. There is also a heartbroken face in there because of one of my best friends kids passing right around the same time my 1st son was born. Life and death.

I began brainstorming my ideas by collecting images from online, specifically Pinterest. It is a common place I look for pictures because it suggests similar ones and I can chose the path of my search. After collecting the photos, I make a collage on Procreate. I erase sections I do not need and sometimes slightly alter the photos.

After tracing and arranging the design I want I added details, but not the small ones. Depending on my thoughts I chose to just use black lines or add bits of color. Once the basic design is finalized I scale it and print it onto paper.

With the scaled image, I transfer it onto the final sheet of paper using wax paper. I first trace the design on the front with pen. Then I color the other side of the paper with a 6B pencil. Finally I trace over the pen drawing while the page is on top of the final paper. I repeat the process until the full image has been created.

Referencing the scaled print out, I add the desired colors and small details that did not transfer precisely. Before outlining everything in pen and adding color I make sure to add extra details in that enhance the map (by sketching in pencil on the existing design).

I had a bad mental health week and this project felt like a mountain. While doing it though I began to feel a lot of satisfaction as I saw everything falling into place and the only thing I felt I did right this week. I was able to tune out everything and really dive into this piece.

This was my starting point. I started with creating my compass rose and began drawing ideas that first came to mind. Traveling and baseball has and still continues to impact my life along with a variety of music and being around plenty of nature.

This was the beginning of the 2nd half of my map. I wanted this part of my map to focus on where my past has currently led me, and to where my future is heading. My idea was mixing both mountains towards my future, along with the city and a waterfall in the bottom right.

I drew out the concept and now I am able to use this to then transfer to bigger scale but also I know I want to make some
Changes but I am happy with what I was able to draw up. I am nervous about the scale. But it’s going to be awesome. I want to add a border like maps usually have and I am still wondering if I should add color. I feel like I want to but I am unsure how I would and would hate to ruin the work and have to start over. I was thinking watercolor might be a good idea for some subtle color in places, or maybe I will just keep black and white. I am going to use the grid Method I believe and then draw it all with light pencil and then outline everything using microns. That is when I would add some watercolor possibly to differentiate the different places, like the garden from the forest and use a shadow for the cave. Still working on the key too. Like I have a couple ideas for how I want to communicate my map…

I took inspiration from old fantasy-land map for this project. My map depicts a journey to traveling through the past, present and future. The progression from past to future start from South to North and each phase is a different elevation level of land also. Each emotion that the journey encompassed are represented symbolically with landscaping.
