The United States' physical expansion in the 1800s was drastic. Made possible by the Louisiana Purchase, the US had almost doubled their territory in just days. Louis and Clark gained even more support from Americans by exploring the land bought by Thomas Jefferson in the Louisiana Purchase. This expedition attracted other Americans to come and settle the rough frontier. The US also began to change politically; in the case of Marbury vs. Madison the idea of a judicial review, the right for the Supreme Court to declare something unconstitutional, was cemented. America's political views were also spread by more harsh means, especially to the Native Americans. They were forced from their lands as settlers came, and were expected to assimilate into a culture that wasn't their own.

What parts of society did women demand there be change?
Women wanted to be as equal as men. They were expected to do house work and take care of the children all day, everyday. All of their money and property became their husbands once they were married. They could not vote or be apart of a jury. Women did not have very many education opportunities. The women who had jobs only got paid about half the money men did for doing the same job. Women wanted all of this to change.

The Second Great Awakening is a time when people rejected the old, Calvinistic belief that God predetermines your damnation or salvation. It began around 1790. Also, it stated that all people, white or black, belong to the same God. This made the number of African Americans to convert to christianity soar. They were allowed to be in the same church as the white people, albeit in separate booths, but both the slave owners and the slaves sang hymns together.

A main idea that was caused by Westward Expansion was Manifest Destiny. This was an idea adopted by most Americans that they were expected, by God, to settle the Western frontier so that the United States would span from coast to coast (http://bit.ly/2f8lz1L). They believed they were doing God a service by forcing Native American Tribes out of their homes and making them move elsewhere, because they believed it was what God wanted them to do.

Women had the right to vote and the right to receive an education. They were able to work the jobs that only men could before such as professions in law, medicine, clergy and corporate. They realized they did not want to be lower than men and wanted both genders to be equal.

The Second Great Awakening caused people to take charge of whether or not they end up in heaven or hell by adjusting their actions. They believed that if they did good deeds, they would go to heaven, and that if they did bad deeds, they would go to hell(http://bit.ly/1HYlBww). Many people attended meetings known as revivals. These revivals were meant to convert people, move people, and convince people that being good in life will reward you in death. A revival can last up to 4 or 5 days. Membership to the ways of the protestant movement grew continuously throughout the 1820's.

In the beginning the United States declined to add Texas into the union, the main reason was because the northerners were politically against the addition of a new slave state.
