Inquiry based learning is a pedagogical method in which learners go through the most natural way of seeking knowledge. They gather information, establish questions and problems, choose the methods and directions of the research, they explore, make experiments, after that reflect, discuss, create, share, communicate, and finally convert information into useful knowledge.

Problems in using inquiry based learning:

Problem 1: Inquiry based learning approach is time-consuming
Solution: teachers should help students to organize their work, for example to divide their work into stages.

Problem 2: Students can feel a perplexity in the process of solving problems.

Solution: both teachers and students should share responsibility of learning. Teacher should facilitate the process. Teachers model how to contribute and extend ideas, how to question and how to carry out an investigation of one’s ideas or theories.

Problem 3: It is difficult to measure the results.

Solution: It is suitable to use reflection and self-evaluation. Also inquire based learning aims the opposite goals than testing results.

· Experience of inquiry based learning during our Master`s course “TeFoLa research”. We worked in groups of 3 people and we have to make small-scale research.

· Met this method during some seminars for the teachers, where tutors gave us some educational situations, that may happen in the educational process with students, teachers, parents, administration. The task was to analyze the situation, discuss in small groups, ask more questions, think about the possible solutions, discuss and reflect about them.

Experience we want to get:
· an experience of searching and choosing relevant information and an experience of goal setting

· to understand what are particular stages and tools.

· what difficulties could we have

Using of inquiry based learning: How to use: project work, creative problem-solving Where to use: inquiry based learning is appropriate for communicative purposes. It makes communication less artificial and more natural Age: both primary school students and secondary school students Why: to develop reading and writing skills; to provide opportunities for students to move beyond being passive recipients of knowledge to become knowledge builders. An idea of using inquiry based learning in the classroom: STUDYING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS 1. To give children narrative about the existence of “alien life” (Burgh & Nichols, 2011). It will increase student`s interest and curiosity. 2. To discuss questions: What exactly is meant by life? Ask students name five things that all living things (including aliens) share. 3. Divide students into 2 groups. 4. Ask students to present the information they have collected. Encourage them to make some claims about important components involved in living things. 5. Students make connections between their research and book/video/podcast related to the topic. 6. Students discuss and share ideas between groups.
