Introduction

Ratliff's definition of repetition is used such as a safety net that can give comfort to listeners. Which gives a positive relationship between the artist and the listeners. I am not quite sure if I agree with Ratliff's arguments regarding the musical element repetition. According to the Merriam- Webster dictionary repetition is the act or an instance of repeating or being repeated. I think this is a plausible definition of the word, but also I think it is a way to show emotion or important facts. Everyone has different ways of learning but repetition is also a literary device that repeats the same words or phrases to make an idea clearer. I think repetition plays a big role in literacy because it is a very important device that helps bring the work or piece together as a whole. It also exemplifies how the reader interrupts the passage by reading between the lines and recognizing the literary device.

The fact that we trick ourselves to get something done is not right. Why is it that we just can't do the things we want to do? Maybe fooling ourselves is the only way we can get through certain things.

"There has been repetition and length in music forever, among friends or in situations that amount to ritual."

The importance of repetition is that it is a way of introducing a new topic by repeating it over and over again. The use of repetition makes remembering something new easier.

Through out the whole first chapter the subject Ratliff focuses on is repetition. Repetition is very important because it can bring out emotion or important things the author is trying to bring to the readers attention.
