Queen bees are female bees that are taken care of by workers before they are even born. They are larger than the other bees and have other advantages that help them live longer such as being able to sting someone multiple times. Despite their name, they don't call any shots in the hive (that job belongs to the "puppet master"). Their job is to mate and lay eggs which is crucial to continuing the hive. When it is coming close to the end of their life, workers will prepare to have a new queen born. Even though their job is very important to the hive, there can't be multiple queens at once. If two queens are born around the same time, they will fight and the winner will become the new queen and continue the hive.

Worker bees are normal bees that have specific jobs at different points of their life. There are over 30,000 workers in an average hive, and each one of them is always doing their job. Their jobs consist of many things such as, cleaning the hive, feeding larvae, storing food, gathering nectar, pollen and propolis . They also guard the hive, gather food, search for sources of pollen and nectar, and take care of the queen. The workers are constantly hatched because without them all working together and doing specific things, the hive would fall apart.

The honey comb is basically a storage unit made of beeswax. It consists of six-sided compartments called cells. These cells are built by worker bees and are used to store honey, pollen and hold eggs. They are also used to make honey; while in the cells, water in nectar evaporates and slowly turns the nectar into honey.

Beeswax is a yellow substance produced by the glands of worker bees. The workers eat honey and their glands convert the sugar from the honey into wax. The workers then pick the wax off of themselves from their selves and use it to make honeycomb. Wax can be recycled after honey is extracted from the honeycomb. It is then used by people to make things such as chewing gum or candles.

Swarming is the result of a colony becoming too crowded. When this happens, the queen's egg-laying decreases. After that, workers build new cells for new queens to hatch and the queen lays eggs in those cells. Once these eggs are prepared, the queen and many workers leave the hive and swarm while some workers stay and take care of their new queen and larvae. The flight that the bees take in search of a new colony is known as swarming. These swarms tend to cluster around branches or posts after leaving the hive and scouts will then leave the swarm and search for a new colony. Once a new colony is found, the scouts will do a "dance" giving directions to the new colony. Then the colony will be investigated and streakers will lead the queen to their new home.

All kinds of bees have many enemies that harm them of the colony for different reasons. Animals like bears may destroy a hive in search of honey or, a wax moth could destroy a weak hive by trying to eat from the honeycomb. But, other animals like skunks or dragonflies often eat bees. There is even an insect known as the bee assassin which feeds off of bees it catches in flowers. People also kill bees without even trying to; we spray things made to kill weeds or other bugs which make their way over to bees and poison them. Even diseases find their way to a colony and kill both young and old bees.
