where it came from?

• seemingly it cannot be traced back to one single place but multiple different websites stated that screaming vocals was predominantly used by the Vikings.

who developed or made it popular?

• harsh and scream-y vocals are largely associated with hardcore genres and at the origin of that you get hardcore punk. early hardcore bands: circle jerks, minor threat, bad brains, black flag, dead kennedys, crass, and the exploited.

those are two songs with those vocals i enjoy.

what do you find interesting or surprising about the history?

• i think the development into other genres over time is interesting. from one kind of noise you have so many different styles of how to execute it. the way someone i enjoy sings it will be completely different to someone of a different genre.

• i practiced the song "supersonic" by oasis in a band. we got the first verse and chorus done successfully.

what you learnt

• i learnt the song because i'd never head it before.

• the actual performing went well after a couple attempts

what could you improve on

• The prep for the song/performance. it was very disorganised and messy and there was a lack of listening to what everyone had to say.

• personally i could try and expand my music knowledge because i know i wont be able to perform a whole lot of my songs because seemingly everyone else has a whole different music taste. i'm not saying ill just do whatever, ill make a compromise and go for something that goes in between two genres or one of my songs and ne of someone elses.

• today we performed come as you are by nirvana during guy's practice session.

what could you improve on

• i need to work on my stage presence

• i need my mic to be louder because i was being as loud as i could and yet my voice was somewhat drowned out but that could also be due to harmonising according to Isaac who i think was kind of right

• last week thursday i went to the booths with isaac and hayden in the morning and practiced. later on in the day i went back to the booths and practiced with my band. we're now called vexed.

• ive learnt to not be as nervous and to practice my stage presence

• we played the songs we chose almost perfectly

• tuning our stuff when were on stage because it took ages last week

• thursdays are usually our booths sessions but college is closed (obviously) so over teams we were separated into our bands and we did a song map.

• we did the song car underwater by armor for sleep because that's been our main focus recently

• I've created a jazz beat and I used the eq t give it a more roomy and airy feeling like it was played in a room with lots of space.

• I used the panning feature to get you to hear they keyboard parts in your right ear and the arp in your left ear.

• I used the levels to make the harp quieter and the keyboard a bit louder but I didn't change much on the bass or drums because the volumes were woking well with the song already

• I faded out the drums and keyboard at the end

• I didn't use any reverb

• we decided who was doing what - ellie on drums, Skylar on bass, Isaac on guitar and vocals, and I was on lead vocals. we chose to do two song covers. we made a list of songs and randomly generated it - that's how we got out first song. I suggested what we could do for our second son and we all agreed to do it. we did come as you are by nirvana and car underwater by armor for sleep.

what did you hope to achieve, and do you think you achieved it?

• I hoped to improve on not being so scared to sing in front of everyone and I personally think I improved at least a little bit. more recently I've not been so nervous and I've been eager to actually get up and do things.

• as a band I hoped to be able to play car underwater well enough to perform it. I personally believe we did that quite well, even if there were clear mess ups.

what went well?

• the band didn't like the structure of the song so we made up our own parts. we cut out half of this part in car underwater where it gets slow because the way it was played was too hard for everyone to swiftly change into so we improvised in the booths and came up with something we stuck with.

• when playing come as you are, they dragged the second verse on longer than I thought the song actually had it and I quite liked it so we kept that in.

• communicate was fairly good, the only part that was confusing was when it came to Skylar. she had joined another band and learnt their song and hadn't learnt car underwater and when we asked her she said she was busy even though we gave her three weeks to get it down. in the end it was okay, we had max fill in for her during the song - the bassist switch between songs was pretty good as well, it was quick and they were both prepared to swap. other than that, all communication was good. Ellie struggled on timing when it came to the slow part of the song car underwater. We figured out a cue I could give her, usually she just asked me to look at her but today I did a 360 turn. there was another cue she wanted me to do and I had thought I gave her it because she asked me to cue her at the end of the chorus but I did it at the wrong chorus and we messed up a little but its okay because we worked with it. in the booths I would write the song structure on the whiteboard and point to what was when and that worked quite well.

• I think another big thing was that we had fun as well, we all made easy agreements and somewhat enjoyed the songs we performed and we enjoyed being together, which definitely makes it easier.

what could you improve?

• there's a part in come as you are where I think our voices clash and it sounds like were off key but this the only time I notice that during the song. to improve that I would get us to sing the part at the same time to figure out what sounds good.

• during car underwater, I think some of the timings could be improved - the part at the end of the first chorus and the slow bit. to improve that we did use cues, but as I said previously I got the right cue at the wrong time so next time I would ask which one specifically.

• biggest thing for myself I think is stage presence. I always think to myself 'I'm going to move around and I'm going to go over to Ellie' and so on. I never end up doing any of it because I get too nervous, even though I've basically gotten over getting up an singing I haven been able to do anything but stand there and sing. that will be my next step.

what would you do differently?

• I would mostly work on my confidence with moving around on stage.

• i think something we could all work on is being a bit more assertive. me and Ellie were talking and it turns out neither of us really wanted to do a nirvana song and Ellie also said that she didn't really want to do drums.

what have you learnt?

• i've definitely gotten louder while singing. i keep saying it but genuinely i have gotten more confident in this short period of time. before this i would never sing in front of anyone and as much as i wanted to i was so so worried of being bad that i never did. Since coming here and singing and playing stuff with others, i've learnt to kind of just do it. If you mess up, you mess up and you move on.

• another thing i learnt was how to play major and minor chords on a keyboard which is actually really useful.

how does your project support your future progression?

• performing for and in front of people is what i want to do. Doing those songs and performing them solidified it, i loved it and i know i definitely want to do this in the future.

• it helps me figure out what i can and can't do and it's letting me experiment with the range of what i can do.

• vocals - breathy at the start but get more stable when the song transitions to the chorus.

• guitar - syncopation in the main riff. the rest of the song is consistent. plays softly during the second vocalists part.

• drums - keeps the beat of the song. they slow and stop during the second vocalists part to put emphasis on the voice.

• bass - consistent and mostly in semi quavers. blends into the song and adds a low tone in contrast to everything else.

• overview of lyrics - its about two lovers who had either been forbidden or were just apart. mainly you get the point of view of the man [who is in love, trying to convince her to come back with him and telling her to stop suppressing her feelings]. In the song he says 'this ghost inside you hurts' as if something in her died and shes pushing it away. when the lady starts singing, i believe its her telling him that she loves him and shes finally ready. the last chorus feels as though there isn't any convincing anymore and hes saying this to her instead of saying it to persuade. by the end i think it hints it them dying together or at least being set free together finally.

• vocals - quick note changes. the voice goes super high in the chorus and his voice does a flip which i like.

• guitar - keeps the speed and sound of the song and is very consistent.

• percussion - in the background but it adds lice clicky noises.

• drums - keeps the tempo and uses a lot of hi hat

• double bass - very low in contrast to everything else since its all very high.

• bpm - 135

• overview of the lyrics - there are two friends [a girl and a guy]. the guy shows romantic interest in the girl and she catches on. they share cute experiences together but as friends. the girl tries to take it further and the guy goes with it. eventually he starts to doubt weather or not he actually wants this and says 'i know i am sometimes headstrong' and 'wondering will i ever tire'. if you weren't having doubts then you wouldn't have these thoughts. you're left thinking it all works out because the chorus was sung once more but really you're left with thinking it works out between them even though there's no clear resolution.

• a music producer is someone who oversees a musical project from start to finish. they manage all aspects of production from working with the sound engineers to helping the band develop creative ideas and making creative choices to guarantee that the final product is as good as it can be.

• financial responsibility - booking a studio and a time slot, more time is more money

• organisation - making sure the right equipment is in the right place and everyone is ready to start and go on time.

• composing - giving the band/sound engineers creative ideas to better the song and get the best outcome

• communication - making sure everyone knows when they're supposed to be there and when they're supposed to be gone. getting everyone caught up on possible changes and what they need for their session and making sure everyone's happy and comfortable with what's going on and the plan.

• health and safety are rules and regulations that are pat in place to ensure that everyone is happy and their well-being’s are protected

• having too many things plugged into one extension lead, its a huge fire hazard and you risk overloading the plug

• Knowing your surroundings, While on stage you don’t want to invade someone else’s space and you definitely don’t want to fall off Stage

• hurting your ears, hearing is crucial to a musician so use car plugs and take care of your ears

• tangled wires, you could trip and hurt yourself or break equipment or even if they’re behind your monitors that Could be a fire hazard and one wire Spark and they’re all cut. Keep them organized

• lights, usually venues are dark and So there will be bright and harsh lighting. Don't look directly into them and try not to strain your eyes.

• equipment, make sure all equipment is Secure, over-head lights, guitar straps, drum parts, plugs, because you could be compromising yours and the crowds health and safety. make sure to double check everything.

• I think a good example would be Patrick Stump. On february 29th, 2012 Patrick posted a blog titled “We liked you better fat: Confessions of a pariah" Where he goes into detail about how everything really affected him. From music critics to fans, majority had negative things to say. He Says that he’s not whining and crying about criticism but he is hurt by the distasteful comments and remarks- Saying that nothing after take this too your grave was worth listening to or people coming to shows Just to tell them that there awful and shouldn’t have made folie a deux because Its ruined their image. He ended up losing lots of weight and then he put out his solo album "soul punk" While Fall out Boy were on their hiatus. he also toured for the album. He Said that he had people buy tickets to his Shows Just to say awful things to him like "you were better when you were fat" or that he "never shoul have left fall out boy” or that his solo music was bad and he Shouldnt have put it out I think this would take a toll on anyone really. So he Stepped back for a While and then fall out boy get back rogther and put out their record "Save Rock And Roll”

  maintaining good mental and physical health Is important In music Industry because if you take on too much or get a ton of repetitive hate, you get burnt out and sick of it. you can have bad thougnts that could drive you to Self-harm un and or suicide. Also, you can get people abusing their power against you so Stay resistant, don’t be afraid to speak up for you or for someone else.
