Folk Culture: Is practiced by a small homogenous group of people, and they are mostly located in isolated areas. In India a long cloth that id draped to create a skirt/shoulder or head cover called a sari is located in India. Country music is an example of Folk culture that spread through America, however, it eventually became popular. Folk culture is diffused at a slow speed and on a smaller scale, and is spread through migration.

Popular Culture: Is practiced by a large heterogeneous group of people, and they are mostly located in non-isolated systems. Examples of popular culture include wearing jeans or even POP music that is listened to by many people. Popular culture is diffused on a much larger scale at a much faster rate by means of electronic comunication.

Organized sports represent the way popular culture is diffused. An example of this would be the globalization of soccer from an English folk custom to global popular culture. Even though many sports originated as isolated folk customs and were diffused like typical folk culture, the diffusion of organized sports displays the characteristics of popular culture.

Folk music is typically passed down from generation to generation and is created by an anonymous originator. The songs typically reflects events in daily life that people tend to experience. Whereas popular music is written down by specific individuals. These songs are intended on being sold in order to get money. The songs are typically created using a high level of technology used in a studio. Country music is a perfect example of how folk music can be changed into popular music. Country music tends to tell a story but with the diffusion of the song it becomes more popular. Also rap songs start out as folk music and then they begin to become popular music once more people begin to listen to it and become aware of it. Taylor Swift is a good example because she started out singing country music and her songs were not very well known but she then began to switch genres and now sings Pop music and is one of the best on the charts.

Amish culture was diffused through relocation diffusion. Their clothing, farming, religious practices, and other customs are left on many of the places where they settle. Their customs, like traveling by horse and buggy and continuing to use hand tools for farming, and folk culture remains distinctly visible in at least 17 states in the US. Even as many European immigrants that came to the United States changed their traditions and customs, the Amish kept their traditions. They did that by resisting the assimilation to the American culture by putting emphaiss on separation from the world, rejecting higher education, selectively using technology, and restricting interaction with outsiders.
