A universal conflict expressed in "All American Dialects" was how everyone has their own dialects and you shouldn't feel ashamed of them. Dialects are a chunk of your culture and make you unique as well as connect you with those around you. A quote to support this claim is "Do not try to change your language into the kind of English that nobody really speaks. Be proud of your slice of pie." The "slice of pie" is a metaphor for how your dialect is unique to you.

In the reading it says, "all it takes is for one person at a dinner to excuse himself into his phone, and the race is on among everyone else." (page 498) I couldn't relate more with any other part of the reading because most of the time that I am with friends during lunch or at a study hall that is exactly what happens. It's interesting how if one person goes on their phone, everyone else feels awkward if they aren't on theirs as well.
